I like the idea that people need a score of at least 5 to even vote, in case an unfunny person manages to get above 5.

n00b thoughts:

The idea of limits, for all contributors, but mostly for noobs, can only increase the quality of submissions.

with limited voting privileges, perhaps the pbum bumon would actually be used on the “eh” submissions and only the lame and awesome would get thumbs.

I’d expand on this idea, by making submissions mimic expected r/l forum behavior. for example: noobs are generally discouraged from starting threads until they’ve read enough of them to understand how the community works. For this reason, I’d limit the amount of submissions in certain categories, once again adding to the value of each submission.

example: 0 builder points: 1 avatar, 3 typical posts, 2 angry posts, and one design post.

as you build points, you’d be rewarded with more submissions in the categories which earned you points etc etc. certain number gets you a thread, overall eventually gets you a max of one or two forums, etc…

The not voting at all may be dangerous, as it would discourage noobs from reading submissions and therefore they wouldn’t learn what was expected/acceptable for that category.
