Serious post here: I completely deserved that ban, and it was a pretty minor one, so whatever. Still, I think there needs to be changes to how GD is modded. A lot of insults and pokes are left unwarned and unpunished, and even the site admins have flamed users in non-RP forums recently. If the rules are going to be enforced at all, they should be enforced for all. I’m not saying ET should be banned or whatever, but I think it’s unacceptable that any users are just allowed to get away with “bannable offenses”.
Secondly, punishing troll posts is totally okay with me. There are a LOT of posts that skirt the edge though, and it can be hard to tell where the line is. Also, you don’t just have to flame to troll people; I think that a lot of whiny threads or threads asking for help with incredibly easy things are possible troll posts, but there’s no way to tell or to punish people for those. Modding all this **** is basically impossible.
I don’t think it’s okay to punish posts that break the letter of the law while following the spirit. The prime example in my mind is nanafabulous personjesus’s three-day ban a couple weeks ago for posting a short allcaps post about how she was really excited to see a forum like Trident Media in the game. The post wasn’t to annoy people, it was to express support for Episode 2. That is probably the ****tiest reason for a ban I’ve seen on here, period.
tl;dr: enforce the spirit of the rules, not the letter, but enforce it in a more standard manner if possible. |
