3000 people is not much at all. That’s about 0,001% of the population in the US. Compare this to, for example, the amount of deaths caused by Communist Russia, which is 50+ million, or the people killed in the Great Chinese Famine, which is 15+ million (depending on source). Do you see anyone regularly weeping for the victims of Communist Russia? No. Maybe that’s because they’re so far away that they don’t matter. I currently live about 6100 kilometers away from New York City. This event is wholly insignificant to me.
