I think so too. And it’s a poor business move. Advertising a game as being “free to play” and allowing for this is incredibly insulting to the userbase which is shrinking in response. FW simply lacks the depth to require people to pay to compete, and a couple of dozen bucks from Ep 2 beta is not going to change that.

This is in no way a strategic business decision. We are working on a fix that will address the klan vanilla and towers issues. This is a living product, always has been. I extensively look into what’s working, what isn’t, and taking in suggestions. We do theme weeks in an effort to test new features and consider for permanent implementation.
