Deep Throat got his nickname from the film. Also, Deep Throat was important as a piece of pornographic cinema because it’s use of (actually, pretty well-written) comedy brought porn into the mainstream. In essence, it was okay for any guy to go and see it, because you weren’t just going there to beat off.
