Dear Mr. Tom,

Sometimes we can’t be invited to all the parties and all the clubs and organizations we would wish. My neighbor two doors down, Mrs. Moskowitz, would probably like to be invited to join our country club, but I’m afraid that’s never going to happen.

This is really not such a very bad thing. As my grandmother used to say, “a place for everything and everything in its place.”

I’m certain that if you try, you will find a society of nice young men and women of your own station with which to mingle.
