“Pain in the ASCII”

Well, I was thinking about the problems with defense, as brought up in the Defense thread earlier, and thought of something that may potentially make the difference:

Add a speed/activity level to Forums. Think, extremely active forums when invaded don’t just post once for every spam post that’s made, you’ll see 3 4 or 5 posts from different users before the attacker gets another shot. Likewise, some attacks, like re-re attacks are easier to use and can be done extremely fast, where a decent insult takes some time and is slower…

My idea for implementation would be making something similar to the CT system from Final Fantasy Tactics. Say you have a CT gauge (you can rename it to whatever, I’m just calling it CT cause it’s what I’m familiar with) that goes from 0 to 100. This gauge fills by your speed every turn, when it hits 100 or more, you get an action. All actions take some amount of CT. Anywhere from 1-100. 1 would be an incredibly fast attack, 100 would be incredibly slow.

The only thing is I’d set minimum speed at around 5. Below that point one point of speed makes enough difference to get double attacks, and makes it easily the most powerful stat. Where above that point, having faster attacks could make up for having a lower speed.

Also, this would make defense actually worth something, as an active forum might have a ton of re-re-esque posters, that do less damage per hit. This makes defense worth more against these people, while maintaining a sufficient challenge for those with less defense. As opposed to some forums which currently use tons of HP to compensate for low damage.

It’d be a big thing to introduce, and make it more of a balancing act, but I think it’d introduce an extra depth that will allow you to keep the game interesting longer.
