Just a bit inspired by Mr. Witty’s adventure in DoomRL, I’m going to start a game in ADoM. Ancient Domains of Mystery is a roguelike game, and it’s also deceptively enormous in terms of scope and complexity. There are also like a thousand ways of getting killed in it, and if you get killed it’s game over, which is what makes this game so awesome.

THE STORY SO FAR: For 6000 years, the world of Ancardia was left untouched by the incursions of Chaos, but finally the sinister forces of evil and darkness have found this young and teeming world. In a remote mountain complex, huge dungeons were formed by great magical powers. They seem to contain some kind of dimensional gate which allows terrors from unknown dimensions to enter the world of Ancardia and wreak havoc.
For years, nobody understood the true cause of sudden ambushes by evil monsters, incursions by hideous monster armies, and the rising tide of Chaos. Finally Khelavaster, the great sage, uncovered an ancient prophecy foretelling the Coming of Chaos — a dark and sinister time when the skill, power and valor of a single hero would determine the future of the world. The ancient scrolls of prophecy hinted at a remote mountain range — the Drakalor Chain — which was destined to be the final battle ground for an epic fight between Chaos and Order. Khelavaster quickly made this known to all the intelligent races of Ancardia.
Within weeks, many heroes set out to find the source of the chaotic forces and destroy it. Khelavaster was among the first to enter those dungeons. Many heroes have followed him since then but no one has ever returned from the dungeons. Thus the forces of Chaos continue their conquest and threaten to defile Ancardia…
You are one of those young heroes willing to risk your life to defeat the forces of Chaos, gain fame, fortune, power, and ultimately save your world and your people. After weeks of arduous travel, you have finally reached the center of the Drakalor Chain and now face the entrance to those dungeons of mystery which must contain a means to save your world. You were told to visit a small village by the name of “Terinyo” and talk to the village elder for he might have the latest information about the region. Steady yourself and be prepared to engage in a heroic struggle for the fate of your home world!

I’m going for a normal ending with this character, which means that we’ll just have to descend to the bottom of the Caverns of Chaos, close the Chaos Gate, and leave the Drakalor Chain alive. I will perform simple tasks myself, like killing minor monsters and picking up items, but when I get to an important choice I’m going to let you decide what to do. If a few hours pbum without reply, I will choose myself so the game doesn’t stagnate.
First we need to generate a character! Stay tuned! |

Alright! We now have a female gray elf born in the month of the Wand. That means our character is very intelligent but also really fragile. Now we’re going to choose a profession!

Voltron encounters a tiny girl who looks sad for some reason. She asks what the matter is. Log in to see images! “Hast ya seen my little doggie? ‘t disappeared near da dark hole on da pbum… Me fears it got lost. Would’cha gettit back to me? Hurry! Mommy sayz dere a bad bad things in da cave!”
Voltron agrees to help the girl, notes the position of the cave for later reference, and goes to talk with some more people. Log in to see images! This baby water dragon seems to have been separated from its parents. Tragic! Log in to see images! Yggaz, the Fool, provides Voltron with some questionable advice. She looks around her and sees the house of the village elder, and an old druid near the water. She thinks about which one of them would be the most useful to speak to for advice.
(Note: This character already has both Healing and Herbalism. Also, going into the puppy cave with a gray elf that doesn’t have any offensive spell would be suicide, but hey, if you really want to go there, that’s your choice.) Nillo edited this message on 06/04/2008 6:29AM |
