Tokyo Metropolitan bumembly has approved the government’s revised bill to amend the Youth Healthy Development Ordinance. A full formal bumembly will be held on Wednesday where voting occurs.
Quoting the source, if the law pbumes, the following will occur
“prevents the sale and renting of “harmful publications” — materials that are “sexually stimulating, encourages cruelty, and/or may compel suicide or criminal behavior” to people under the age of 18. Bill 156 would require the industry to also regulate “manga, anime, and other images (except for real-life photography)” that “unjustifiably glorify or exaggerate” certain sexual or pseudo sexual acts. Another section of the revised bill would allow the government to directly regulate the above images if the depicted acts are also “considered to be excessively disrupting of social order” such as enjoy.” |

Yeah, it looks like this is only going affect things marketed to minors, so the majority of ‘mature’ animé (like Ghost in the Shell or Cowboy Bebop) will be unaffected. Also, it looks like it is mainly focused on curbing the amount of relatively explicit sexual material that is available to minors.
This doesn’t seem like much of a problem to me, but I only watch a couple of animé, so I’m hardly an expert.
