Valve’s Steam service has been dated for Macs, with the likes of Half Life 2 and Team Fortress playable on Apple’s hardware from May 12.

The news comes off the back of Steam’s recent overhaul on the PC, and marks the dawn of a new era of gaming on the Mac. While the service will offer an initially limited catalogue, it’s set to expand over the coming months and finally position Apple’s computers as a viable gaming platform – an exciting prospect for sure.

Portal 2 will be the first major new release from Valve, releasing day and date with the PC version .

Thoughts? Especially anyone with a Mac; are you happy about this, do you not care, or do you have a separate PC for when you do decide to game/use Steam?

Real men know what each OS is good at doing; for example, I do virtually all of my work in OS X and then I use Windows to make sure the end result is Windows-compatible.

EDIT: Oh, right, the topic: I think anything that bridges the gap between platforms is a good thing. Doesn’t majorly impact me, because I’m primarily a console gamer, but it’s always nice to have more options available.
