Alan Blunt, director of MI6, uses this incident to blackmail Alex into investigating the deaths, of two billionaires; Michael Roscoe, and Viktor Ivanov. Their sons, both attend the same academy in the French Alps, Point Blanc, and MI6 plans to send Alex there undercover, posing as “Alex Friend”, son of a supermarket magnate David Friend. He is supplied with several gadgets, including an exploding ear-stud and a Walkman which is also an emergency signaling device and a diamond-edged saw. |

Friend agrees to take Alex in as a “son”, and he spends a week at the Friend estate in the country. Afterwards, he is picked up by Eva Stellenbosch, a teacher at Point Blanc, and flown to Paris, where they stop overnight to refuel. After dinner in the hotel, Alex realizes that his drink was spiked, but pbumes out in his bedroom. Unconscious, he is taken to a laboratory where every inch of his body is photographed. He is then returned back to his bed. |

When Alex arrives at Point Blanc, he meets a rebellious boy called James Sprintz. The pair quickly become friends. Sprintz, the son of millionaire banker, hates the school, and plans to escape. Sprintz is suspicious of the whole setup of Point Blanc – boys who were formerly unmanageable and even criminal are abruptly transformed, overnight, into outstanding citizens. |

One night, Alex explores the building. He gets up to the next floor via the chimney shaft, and finds that the entire upper floor is an exact replica of the one downstairs, with video screens showing what is happening in each of the boy’s rooms. Alex soon sees James being dragged up the stairs, yelling for help. Alex is too late to help him, however, and returns to his room. The next morning, Alex sees James – but he is now polite and well-mannered, and laughs at the idea of escaping Point Blanc. Alex is unnerved, more so when he sees James making exactly the same gesture as another boy had used the day before. |

Convinced something sinister is going on, Alex investigates again, and finds the boys in a jail in the basement, including James. Alex promises to help them escape. Stellenbosch, however, catches Alex and turns him over to the director, Dr. Hugo Grief, who explains his plan, the Gemini Project. |

In the 1980s, Grief cloned sixteen copies of himself in South Africa (where he greatly supported the apartheid regime). While the real boys are at Point Blanc, he has a plastic surgeon surgically alter his clones to resemble them. After a short while, the clone and the real boy are swapped. The replica rooms upstairs are used by the clones to imitate the boys behaviour. When the parents die and pbum on their inheritance, Grief will take the bumets from the clones. Eventually, he will rule the world, and reinstate apartheid globally. |

Chemistry is the scientific study of interaction of chemical substances[3] that are constituted of atoms or the subatomic particles: protons, electrons and neutrons.[4] Atoms combine to produce molecules or crystals. Chemistry is often called “the central science” because it connects the other natural sciences such as astronomy, physics, material science, biology, and geology |

Grief imprisons Alex, planning to dissect him alive the next day. Alex uses his exploding ear-stud to escape his cage, and escapes the academy with a makeshift snowboard. Alex evades Grief’s men, but crashes into a train and is hospitalized. Stellenbosch visits the hospital, and is told that he has died. |

Mrs Jones then sends Alex to raid the school with SAS soldiers – one of whom is Wolf, who Alex trained with at the SAS camp in Stormbreaker. During the raid, Stellenbosch is killed by Wolf. Alex sees Dr. Grief taking off in a helicopter. Determined to stop him escaping, Alex drives a snowmobile up the ski jump, jumping off at the last minute. The snowmobile hits the helicopter, causing it to explode, killing Grief. |

When Alex returns home, he is told by Alan Blunt that the mission was a success, that all of the boys were rescued and all fifteen clones were disposed of. Alex is then called to his school, where he discovers that the sixteenth clone, who Grief’s surgeons had surgically altered to resemble Alex, eluded capture. The clone plans to kill Alex in revenge for killing his “father”, Dr. Grief. Alex and the Grief clone fight on the school roof, and the science department catches fire. As the two boys fight, one of them (presumably the clone) falls to his death. The other walks away. |

Possible Inspiration ————— * In R.L. Stein’s “Perfect School”, troublesome children are cloned and the clones sent home after being “rehabilitated”.
* In the James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”, the main villain, Blofeld, has his base in the Alps. |

The structure of objects we commonly use and the properties of the matter we commonly interact with, are a consequence of the properties of chemical substances and their interactions. For example, steel is harder than iron because its atoms are bound together in a more rigid crystalline lattice; wood burns or undergoes rapid oxidation because it can react spontaneously with oxygen in a chemical reaction above a certain temperature; sugar and salt dissolve in water because their molecular/ionic properties are such that dissolution is preferred under the ambient conditions. |

In enzymology, a bis(5’-adenosyl)-triphosphatase (EC 3.6.1.29) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction
P1,P3-bis(5’-adenosyl) triphosphate + H2O -> ADP + AMP
Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are P1,P3-bis(5’-adenosyl) triphosphate and H2O, whereas its two products are ADP and AMP.
This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on acid anhydrides in phosphorus-containing anhydrides. The systematic name of this enzyme clbum is P1,P3-bis(5’-adenosyl)-triphosphate adenylohydrolase. Other names in common use include dinucleosidetriphosphatase, diadenosine 5,5-P1,P3-triphosphatase, and 1-P,3-P-bis(5’-adenosyl)-triphosphate adenylohydrolase. This enzyme participates metabolic pathways involved in purine metabolism, and may have a role in the development of small cell lung cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer. The transformations that are studied in chemistry are a result of interaction either between different chemical substances or between matter and energy. Traditional chemistry involves study of interactions between substances in a chemistry laboratory using various forms of laboratory glbumware. |

Evaporation ponds are artificial ponds with very large surface areas that are designed to efficiently evaporate water by sunlight and exposure to the ambient temperatures. |

Uses
Evaporation ponds have several uses. Salt evaporation ponds produce salt from seawater. They are also used to dispose of brine from desalination plants. Mines use ponds to separate ore from water. Evaporation ponds at contaminated sites remove the water from hazardous waste, which greatly reduces its weight and volume and allows the waste to be more easily transported, treated and stored. It is important to understand that evaporation is not the same as condensation although evaporation in an enclosed environment can subsequently lead to the condition of condensation as evaporated moisture is “condensed” out of the air and is reverted back to a liquid stage. |

Evaporation ponds can also be used to evaporate the precipitation that falls on a contaminated site. The contaminants that the water picks up on the ground are left behind after it evaporates. This prevents the contamination from spreading further down the watershed. |
