I have a idea planned out and such, but I’m lacking the knowledge of how to actually compile maps/make events. So, could you point me to a set of tutorials or something of the sort that will help? |

http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReferenceWML WML (Wesnoth Markup Language) is the language used to code Wesnoth maps. The Reference will help you code the actual maps, units, etc.
