Generichaxor and DarkDespair5 present “The Official “Make Us A Wesnoth Era Contest”

This contest is as simple as it sounds. Make a cool era for the game “Battle for Wesnoth”.

Upload it to the Wesnoth add-ons server. The cooler the era, the more points you get.

Rules:

#0. 1 Submission per character. Alts allowed.

To submit an era, post in this thread. Then, tubmail either generichaxor of DarkDespair5, informing us about your era (screenname and name of era would be nice so that we can find it). Then, upload it to the Wesnoth add-ons server.

#1. Make the era interesting and concise. Boring eras will generally receive less points that fun eras.

Eras that take forever to load generally detract from the time we get to play.

#2. Specs for the era:

a. Must have at least 4 different factions, complete with units and advancement trees.

b. Each faction should have a unique theme (like elves, dragons, etc).

#3. Bonus:

a. Balancing the factions against each other would be nice, but is not required.

b. Add abilities. Implement these on different units for bonus points.

1. zoc2 – unit’s Zone Of Control is 2 spaces wide

2. distract – lowers enemy’s evasion by 10% * (level_difference+1)

3. evade – raises evasion by 10% * (level_difference+1)

4. hardy – raises all defenses by 10% * (level_difference+1)

c. Add weapon specials. Implement these on different units for bonus points.

1. Distance – Must attack an enemy 2 spaces away from unit, instead of 1.

2. wither – lower all enemy’s defenses by 15% * (level_difference+1)

3. disease – enemy unit cannot raise HP

4. Line of fire – Attack damage is split between attack target and hex behind it.

d. Add status ailments. Implement these on different units for bonus points.

1. Paralysis: Units afflicted lose 2 movement until stationed in a village for 1 turn. Each turn, they have X% chance of being unable to move.

2. Burn: Units afflicted lose X% attack power until stationed in a village for 1 turn.

3. Zombie: Healing becomes damage.

e. Include the following unit types:

1. Stationary Unit/Ballista: Is spawned by a Summoner-type unit; cannot move; can fire on any location on the map; self-destructs after a specific number of turns.

#4. Deadline:

Since Wesnoth eras can be fairly lengthy and complicated, all submissions are due October 29, 2009.

#5. Prizes:

15BP to the best submission. 5 BP to the second best submission.

5 random posters will win 1BP each.

DarkDespair5 is currently making an FAQ for this thread (not everyone knows what Wesnoth is)

EDIT: Q&A thread

if this isn’t obvious, don’t copy the factions already in the game. you may use them as a model for your faction, but do not outright copy paste someone else’s work and claim it as your own.

I’m almost as bad @ toxx as generichaxor and so i am letting him run the contest.
