**** … is no place sacred anymore? must we have this animal rights crap everywhere?

1- most slaughterhouses actually practice “humane” methods. i would daresay it’s the minority that mistreat the animals. that is an acceptable margin for me.

2- as someone else in this thread mentioned, if we want to complain about suffering, lets start with human suffering. at least boycot products that exploit other humans.

3- unless you claim morality is objective, which i would ask you to prove if the answer is yes, then how can we animal suffering is unethical? utilitarianism comes the closest, but fails to determine it once the impact is 0. e.g. if my actions have no negative impact on the environment(or even a benefit), and benefit for me, then your only justification for saying that i shouldnt cause more pain than necessary is because YOU FEEL it is bad. purely subjective. e.g. kangaroos. vermin, population needs to be culled for their own good, and provides meat for me. benefit all round. now if i choose to club or even torture them to death, prove to me how this is unethical by any logic other than “you feeling its bad”

(PS the argument of me not wanting someone to torture me doesnt hold up. that is reciprocity of which kangaroos are not capable. humans are, which is why utilitarianism would dictate a moral equivalent of not mistreating humans)

You won’t “die” of malnutrition if your a vegan, but you will definitely be less capable physically than your peers with a more balanced diet.

If it were up to me, I wouldn’t allow vegetarians in the army.

I agree, ask any doctor in a hospital thats on the rotation for delivering babies. vegan babies are always much smaller. Compare vegan bodybuilders to natural (i.e. non steroid but still eating meat) body builders, vegans are smaller. Sure, you wont die, and it is possible to have balanced levels, but that is pretty hard to do and maintain, and plenty of vegans develop deficiencies, because it’s all well and good to talk about suppliments, but the average person is a dolt and will **** up.

If we were actually made to consume animals, we would have the proper teeth needed for it. Like cows, we have teeth made to consume plants. You don’t actually need the protein from meat…you could get that through legumes and peanuts. Or even a multivitamin. Plus, there are meat substitutes that have twice the amount of protein that you would get from an equal size of actual meat.

The front half of a humans teeth are made for ripping and tearing. We even have a set of teeth called “Canines.” Cows have what we call molars going through their entire mouth, which is why they are herbivorous. We are made to be omnivorous, not herbivorous.

No videos should make you want to stop eating meat, let alone a video made by PETA. There videos are the essence of bias. The animals that are slaughtered are bred to be slaughtered. They have been raised to be that way, and doing anything other than that with them would just kill them without any benefits.

I **** FISH AND I HAVE NO BROWNIE POINTS AND I LOVE male reproductive organ

Wow, I go missing for a bit and miss this gem.

I was a vegetarian for four years and it was perfectly within my range of diet to get the proteins that I needed. Yum, yum peanut bumer! The thing is, even eating organically, which is just as harmful to the environment as not eating organic, after those 4 years I actually felt physically weaker. I just didn’t have the stamina and strength I used to when I first started. Free range and supplements are all good, but unless it’s a choice due to a health issue, really, then there is no reason to be upset about this.

We eat meat for a very good reason; it’s easier than gathering foliage.

Animal meat is much more dense in calorie energy, and more convenient when they are domesticated.

Like it or not, society would not exist in it’s current form if we hadn’t mastered the skill of animal domestication. And that includes using animals as food sources.

Do I support cruel & inhumane treatment of our food animals? No. Am I going to lose sleep at night because it happens? No.

There are a LOT of things more important in the world than how poor Betsy is treated when she goes into the slaughterhouse. I’m going to focus my efforts and concern on more important problems (like the fact that millions of people don’t even have the luxury of choosing to be vegetarians, because all food sources are scarce in their area, and they’d happily eat ‘rotting, decomposing flesh’ ) before I worry about whether or not Wilbur was treated kindly before he became my afternoon BLT.

And to whoever made the comment about ‘decomposing flesh’... seriously, plant matter decomposes as well, so unless you’re eating your tomatoes and lettuce straight from the plant while it’s still attached to the ground, you’re eating decomposing plant matter. Yummy, compost is good for lunch.

Hahaha PETA.

What jackbumes. Oh, and terrorists. So, go figure. Moral high ground or something right?

Also: We can’t digest cellulose, so we probably do way more damage to the world at large trying to grow enough partially edible crops to sustain people that somehow have bought into the con.

Also, corn subsidy, hahahahahaha what a joke.

PETA is a known terrorist organisation that uses activism against killing animals for food as a reason to do **** they do. **** them all! Lions and tigers are not expected to only eat tofu for the rest of their lives and neither should the rest of us.

MOOOOOS ARE BELOW ME

After reading this thread I don’t know if I should feel like an bumhole or not. I don’t feel guilty when buying or eating meat. But at the same time I care about animals.

However, my overall problem with the mindset of most vegans and animal rights activists is the fact that they care so deeply and advocate for species that are far inferior to them. Whereas if you ask them about terrorist torture or the holocaust they’ll probably just say “those things are bad.”

In the wild all animals rely on nourishment through species that are inferior and weaker than them either physically or mentally. So the eating of meat to me is just nature. If found lost in the woods it is instinct to go after a certain source of food. For example I would go after rabbits, fish and squirrels to survive in the wilderness…not a bear.

Yes it’s sad that animals are treated very poorly in factory style ranges and slaughter houses. But if your argument remains; that this animal could have had a name and it was slaughtered to become my dinner. Just remember roughly 10 million people were killed in the holocaust to become ash and dirt.

Vegetarianism is often just an excuse for people to feel better about themselves, like buying carbon credits or giving a homeless person a buck.

I think you should stick with your meat eating. This issue is a difficult one, but if possible, try to figure out if there are any particular slaughterhouses that practice decent slaughter, and support them by buying their products exclusively. It’s all you can do, really, depressing as that sounds.

Supporting causes like PETA and greenpeace is sometimes another way for people to feel less guilty, but they often do more harm than good. I, myself, sign whatever petitions to have politicians look at ways to restrict and ban animal cruelty, but I know that it only helps so much.

I think the only thing you can really say is that as long as -you- don’t make them suffer, you’re doing what you can. By supporting humane butchers you can help improve the lives of the animals, and perhaps feel better. But overall, it’s something we, sadly, must realize we can’t do much to change. Rauise awareness in your social groups, perhaps, but beware of becoming a zealot; Then you’ll just harm the cause rather than help it.

I hope you’ll figure it out, man. Log in to see images!

I’ve been a vegetarian for over 10 years and I’m fine. I don’t care if people eat meat. I’m not a member of PETA. I’m lacto-ovo, and while I’m against animal cruelty obviously, I became a vegetarian because I became disgusted eating meat. I just suddenly couldn’t. I know there’s a lot of annoyingly vocal vegetarians, but meat eaters who constantly harbum you about it are just as annoying.

I AM A ****ING fabulous person THAT MASTURBATES TO DOLPHINS

I’m personally a vegetarian for my own choices and reasons, but if you eat meat, then whatever, I don’t really care. I don’t judge my friends if they eat a hamburger, so long as they don’t judge me for eating a veggie burger.

I -DO- believe, though, that if you’re chomping into a double cheeseburger from a fast food resteraunt, that you can’t go on about animal abusers or animal cruelty.

But other than that, who really gives a ****? Me trying to talk people out of eating meat is pointless. Some people just don’t care about the same things I do, such as animal cruelty. It doesn’t make them bad people…it just means that they’re disinterested. I’m not an advocate for human rights, and I don’t really care about gay rights or black rights enough to stand outside with picketsigns, and I can be percieved as a bad person by human rights advocators. So because of that, I don’t really judge people that don’t have an interest in animal welfare.

Hope that makes sense.

I have yet to eat dog, or other bizarre meat that probably tastes like chicken and is sold in Asia.

On a side note, the animals that suffer the most must be fishes, since they are chocked to death, but no one gives a **** about fishes because they lack cute expressions.

Hunting endangered whales is wrong. I like whales too much to eat them anyhow.

Watched the KFC video. Those abuses are the result of bad HR. Srly those workers have a bad attitude towards their work and are taking it out on the animals. I’ve seen better ways to trim the beaks of the chicks. Obviously the factory needs Newer more efficient machines to ensure cleaner cuts of the heads. They can’t wait for the chicken’s bodies to stop twitching since that would violate food safety. Bacteria grows exponentially btw.

Chickens are actually quite ferocious. I’ve seen chickens group together and peck intruders (Rats/Mice and lizards) to death.

I eat meat because I don’t want my muscles to deterioate and also it is delicious.
