The second ace would bust him so it counts as 1, but then the 9 and 5 REALLY bust him, yet he wins.
amirite or should i be demoted to re-re?
i think I had like 17 in my hand. I might have busted as well, i forget now. But he should have busted and lost, right? TUBSWEETIE edited this message on 02/26/2008 3:37PM |

why would both aces count as one? the first ace should be 11 since the previous card was just 4, right? 4+11=15 which isn’t a bust. |

ohhhhh so all the aces drop to 1. I get it now. I just played a couple rounds and had that happen in my favor a couple times. I should learn up on my card playing skills. |

Yeah, Aces are 1 or 11, whichever you choose, at any time. You can change what they’re defined as, the typical blackjack game that updates after each card will bumume an Ace is 11 unless it’d bust, which is why it looks like you can’t switch them unless it’d bust you. |

Basically, he’s showing like this:
Ace (11) + 4 = 15 Ace (1) + 4 + Ace (1) = 6 Ace (1) + 4 + Ace (1) + 9 = 15 Ace (1) + 4 + Ace (1) + 9 + 6 = 20
That’s some good luck for a dealer, because the dealer has to stand on anything over 17. |

I used to deal blackjack in the local casinos. bumuming Gamblebot’s playing by the same rules, aces are automatically counted as 11. If that would cause a bust, they’re dropped down to 1, one at a time, until a number below 21 is reached.
So this is how the hand was evaulated:
4 + A(11) = 15. Must hit. 4 + A(11) + A(1) = 16. Must hit. 4 + A(1) + A(1) + 9 = 15. Must hit. 4 + A(1) + A(1) + 9 + 5 = 20. Must stand.
Some more examples: A+A = 12 (must hit) A+A+10 = 12 (must hit) A+5 = 16 (must hit) A+6 = 17 (probably must stand, if like most casinos) |

Ah, true. I dropped both aces to 1, but in most cases, the dealer would have to drop only ONE of them, giving them 16.
