Okay, so I actually have no idea how well known this is, whether everyone knows about it or if it’s new to most people. But I figure it’s good to put out there, because someone’s bound to not know about it. Right? Yeah, anyway. I concider myself a rather big, dare I say hardcore Sonic fan, and I had no idea about this.
So, apparently Michael Jackson was involved in the production of the music of Sonic 3. A popular misconception is that he created the music for the game, which is only very partly true. During production was when he was first accused of child molestation, so Sega dropped the contract. His song writers, however, remained (and are credited). There are some likenesses with songs in the game and songs by him released right after.
These include (but are not limited to): – The credits song sounds like “Stranger in Moscow” – Part from Carnival Night Zone resembles a part from “JAM” – “Who is it” sped up sounds like Ice Cap zone.
Also as most people know when Sonic & Knuckles was released you were able to put another cartridge into that one. This worked with the main series Sonic games. Sonic (1) gave an endless amount of variations to the special stage in Sonic 3, Get Blue Spheres. Sonic 2 let you play Sonic 2 as Knuckles, whereas Sonic 3 gave you Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles put together giving you Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Now, Sonic 3 & Knuckles also changed some of the music in the Sonic 3 part of the game, incidentally the music belived to be created by Michael himself.
I was pretty shocked when I heard all this. This game is one of my best childhood memories and also one of my favourite games of all time.
Some good youtube videos:

Plenty more to be found in the related vids.

That first YouTube vid seems to be down. Just a heads up.
Still, pretty interesting. I had no idea that a) Michael Jackson was hired to do music for Sonic the Hedgehog, b) Michael Jackson has a “songwriting team,” c) Michael Jackson had a song called “Stranger in Moscow” and d) Michael Jackson is a child rapist.
Wait, scratch that last one. I knew that. Everyone knows that. Log in to see images! |

They disabled embedding for some reason. I had the same issue with my Saved by the Bell video the other day. |
