More or less what the title says, but within certain formats. I’ve played quite a few odd ones, but I’m always looking for more ways to be weirded the hell out. Rules are as follows:
Please include a brief description of the game, and if possible, a link to a blurb and/or video of it.
I like pretty much any genre, I’m not too fussy there.
’Weird’ can be ‘random Japanese crap’ (Katamari Damacy), ‘bizarre yet intriguing’ (killer7), ‘awesomely trippy’ (Rez), ‘experimental concepts’, ‘creepy as ****’ (Silent Hill), ‘however the hell you clbumify Metal Gear Solid 2’, etc.
I’ve played a lot of games, if I tell you I’ve played a game, please pick a different one so it’ll still count. I’ll make sure to comment on and possibly compliment your original choice though Log in to see images!
For obvious reasons please try to pick a game for a format I can easily obtain it for. These include the following:
-PS2 (PAL region) -4th generation or lower consoles (4th gen = SNES, Genesis, etc) -PC games that aren’t especially demanding/recent (my computer is ****, and has trouble running games more than about 5 or 6 years old Log in to see images!) -Wii/Gamecube (PAL region) -Game Boy Advance

Blood Will Tell looks pretty awesome, Osamu Tezuka (creator of Astro Boy) wrote the story apparently. Concept looks pretty great too. |

MDK, 1 or 2. I told you about this game before, but I don’t know if you’ve taken a look at it yet. MDK 1 is technically abandonware, so it can be downloaded here, and MDK 2 can be found cheap for PS2 and PC.
In the games, you play as a janitor employed by a mad scientist, who decided to take a permanent vacation from earth. When aliens attack, the Dr. sends you down to earth equipped with an experimental coil suit. What follows is an action platformer with plenty of shooting and jumping in weird alien landcrawlers.
2 also allows you to play as the Dr. himself, and his furry, gun toting, six limbed abomination of science, Max.
If that hasn’t sold you, it’s made by the same team who made Earthworm Jim. Which is another game you should probably check out. |

Tail of the Sun for the original Playstation. You play a caveman and your goal is to make a tower to the sun out of mammoth tusks. To do that you have to roam the world and try to find mammoth. There’s not a lot to do in the game, but I got a lot of mileage out of running around and killing animals with my stick, then dieing and letting someone else in my tribe go out in the world.
Psychonauts (PS2) isn’t bad either. It’s a platformer about a summer camp for psychics who do battle inside people’s heads. It has some pretty funny moments. PhineasPoe edited this message on 10/02/2008 10:25AM |

you play a little girl who is afraid to go outside. the whole game is pretty much done through you sleeping, when you go into your bed you enter a dream world with quite a few doors. you go through these doors and watch events, pick up “effects” (you can get things ranging from a bicycle to move faster to just having poop hair. some effects do nothing, but to beat the game you need to find all of them)
it’s just a generally creepy game, and very strange the site i linked probably has a better description, and an english version (you *might* need to install an eastern language pack to play it but imo it’s worth it) |

I have the weirdest game on the planet to reccomend to you, but the only way you can play it is through an emulator and a ROM unfortunately…
It was never released outside of Japan, it goes for really high prices on Japanese auction sites apparently.

It’s basically a game based on dreaming. It has no goal, you just play through levels of dreams which differ each time…
I’m not kidding, ****ing ANYTHING can happen in this game and that is why it scares me to ****ing death. I actually can’t play it with my headphones on…
One dream I went into this room and everything was normal, did some stuff then woke up eventually…
Next time I go to sleep, I go to the same room and there’s this big ****ing inflatable thing that leaps out at me when I touch it, I was ****ing **** scared
It’s based on one of the staff members’ diary of dreams that he’d been keeping for a decade and I’m tellin’ ya, this guy has some ****ed up dreams… |

Get Psychonauts for the PC right now. ****ing awesome. You basically go in people’s brains and do some crazy ****, but the story and gameplay is awesome. It sounds kinda lame, but trust me it is one of the best games I have ever played.

It has some of the best level design and dialogue in any game I’ve ever played. Fun and funny the entire time.
You can keep the BP, just get this game.

PAL GCN: Doshin The Giant Wiki Briefly: Part God-sim, Part ****ed-up-version of Pikmin. I really can’t explain it briefly, read the wiki.
PAL PS2: Mr. Mosquito Wiki Briefly: You are a mosquito. Fly around, suck some blood, don’t get killed. It’s a bit more complex than that.
PAL GCN: Donkey Kong Jungle Beat Breifly: It’s a platform game, but for NO ****ING REASON YOU PLAY IT WITH BONGOS. Fun and confusing. Bongo’s are cheap as **** now if you don’t have them already.
MEGADRIVE: Kid Chameleon Breifly: Side scrolling platformer with hundreds of stages, and exits that dont tell you where they lead. There are helmets you collect to power up differently (Ninja, Tornado, Fly, Axe Murderer, Knight, etc.) and will allow you to progress through the stages differently. Multiple exits, infinite paths, one long bum trip to the end. Without a walkthrough you may never finish it. Here, is an on lien vidio reveiw. It has som litel spolers but its ok.
Teh game is fun! you hav to kis lost of poepel in you’re town so, you can get to kis teh girl yuo lik. But poepel mostly oly let you kis tehm if you fixs there porblems. So its lost of puzels. Theres a daily skeduel and poepel from teh town do tihngs at differnt times so you, hav to be at teh rite plase at teh rite tim. You also, haf to slepe.
Its on teh PS2. I dont now if its in PAL or not but, is gess it porbaly is.
I hop yuo lik it. I dont even care abot, teh brownei ponts, I juts want evreyon to try tihs gam becaes, its realy god and, no one nows abot it.

OOC: Play Chulip. It’s silly and weird and awesome. Lots of different kinds of puzzles and mini-adventures/quests. Lighthearted and sweet. Unusual art style. Looks/feels a bit like a kids’ game, but I don’t think kids would actually like it. Some of the puzzles are pretty challenging. Donkey Kong Country for the SNES is ****ing awesome and I would bumume the sequels are good too. Metal Marines was great (like a simpler real time Command & Conquer) but not really very weird and I used to love Lost Vikings.
I’ll search for links if you’ve never played them.

I’m shocked to see no one’s suggested No More Heroes for the Wii yet.
It’s an absolutely insane game. You somehow have a light saber, and you just need to go around killing millions of dudes. The plot is absolutely ridiculous, but I had a lot of fun with it. I can’t even describe how crazy it is. Cartoony blood spews everywhere, coins fly out of dead people, and you get to do “jobs” like mowing a lawn, collecting scorpions, etc. It’s sorta like Grand Theft Auto Lite, with less killing random people and more killing a million bad guys. |
