In an effort to embrace my geekdom, and because we’ve lightly touched on the subject in other threads, I thought it might be interesting if we shared our favorite graphic novels. Might get some good reading ideas, as well. Some of my current favorites are:
Watchmen by Alan Moore The Boys by Garth Ennis Y The Last Man by Brian K Vaughan Criminal by Ed Brubaker Fables by Bill Willingham of course The Dark Knight returns by Frank Miller
Man I could go on all night with this one… CoreyJess edited this message on 08/22/2008 11:55PM |

300, I Am Legend, The Killing Joke, and anything in the Marvel Zombies universe are all clbumics.
Not to mention, the Helsing and Death Note series of manga. I could make a whole list of good manga, but those are the two that really stand out to me as comparable to stuff like Watchmen. |

I’ve never been able to find The Killing Joke in stores, I should buy it online… Death Note was pretty good, as well. It was different.

guilty. I live in the mid-west. Jews are like Bigfoot here, we’ve heard of them, but the proof that they exist is only on TV.Log in to see images! |

ok maus is like a story of a holocaust survivor except all the jews are mice and all the nazis are cats and it also cuts back to the author’s life who is trying to write the book and stuff yeah it is kinda hard to explain
here’s the wikipedia page but I would say it is a very good book overall, but sadly I do not have very many graphic novels to compare them to. |

I will, don’t blame me for not having heard of a novel that was published while I was a drunk senior. I only found culture in my twenties. Edit:I think this will be the next one I read, thanks. CoreyJess edited this message on 08/23/2008 12:27AM |

With the exception of volume 7, yes. And while some important stuff happens in volume 7, it kind of abandons the true storyline progression.
And I think it was volume 4 that was a collection of back stories for the secondary and tertiary characters. Great read, but also not part of the plot. Jubbles edited this message on 08/23/2008 1:07AM |

I wanted to thank you guys. I just finished Maus, and I must say I’m sorry this did not cross my radar sooner. To say that it’s good, or moving, seems a shallow thing to say about a book like this. I’m kind of disappointed this was not a must read in school, it should have been. In fact, In a few years, I think I’m going to have my kids read it. They are far to young for this now. But thank you for pointing this book out to me. |
