So, like, whut level were you when you completed Eppy1? (like, rilly spoilery and stuff)I bounced that Nuclear forum at level 7, although I levelled up during the run. Overstocked my items by a factor of 3 though. (view post) |

EVIL TROUT - WHERE'S OUR VANILLA? >:(I was one of the ones who did not get my scoops last night. However, when I logged in this morning, my scoops were there. The news message was after the deliveries message, so perhaps it just took time to hand out all of the scoops to everyone? (Perhaps the engine had to go visit the grocery store to get more vanilla) (view post) |

The officialized forumbuildr 2.0 beta WORD TYPE suggestion thread!I was surprised not to find this WORD TYPE, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just me being too stupid to find it.

How we plan to improve ForumBuildr!I think Skyreal and others has some really good suggestions here. I’d like to offer a couple of addendums though:
1. To make things easier when awarding additional submissions in a limited submission scenario, set a threshold upvote number that scales with the total number of votes cast and time till the end of submissions. If an idea exceeds that threshold number, then the owner of the idea has one of their submission slots freed up for an additional submission.
2. While the ideas suggested for how to handle downvoting abuse are innovative, there is a method that hasn’t been suggested which might be easier to implement. Maintain the current method of removing votes from the general voting when their score gets to low, but instead of outright deleting the idea, put it into a separate category (call it “pwned ideas” ) that players can browse if they so choose. Players may choose to upvote ideas in this category, but no further downvotes can happen. If a threshold number of upvotes is achieved, then the idea is put back into the general voting list again. This will help recover from spam downvoting by certain klans, and allow players to self-police the submissions themselves.
3. Award scoops at then end of the week, instead of as votes acgreat timesulate. This will help mollify scoop farming by klans, and hopefully make it less attractive to earn scoops via klan mbum-voting. (view post) |

My 2 cents on this matter is that the abuse takes place because this is an automated system. Any automated but unmoderated system that pays out any kind of advantage will be abused. I see two things that would help reduce the amount of abuse that is done on forumbuildr.
First, if the automated removal process is considered a necessity, then add a time or max vote factor into the removal process. Either give ideas a base time (such as 24 hours) for maximum review before automatically removing it from the system, or use a maximum votes condition so that the idea cannot be automatically removed until a certain number of votes have been recorded (preferably high enough to overcome a single clan or group of clans from continuing their abuse).
Second, why is the selection system automated? Having the most votes should not automatically move an idea into the next forumbuildr slot. Instead, have a dev (or moderator if devs don’t have time) review the idea list, with the number of positive votes being a key weight on the decision. Manual review ideas will show up blatant system gaming, and can lead to an audit to identify the troublemakers. It might still be advisable to auto-remove low score reviews (I’m not a big fan of auto-removal, but acknowledge that there might be a need) from public view, but leave the actual idea submission in place for the manual review.
