"Forumwarz Steno Star!" Win BPs, fame, opportunity and Carpal Tunnel!Last call, to be a Steno Star!
EDIT: We may or may not have had an entrant drop out, and thus 16:10-22:30 is most likely wide open, like Jalanpeno Bootyhole’s bootyhole!
EDIT EDIT: Also, if you entered but never got an “entry received” confirmation from me, please shoot me a Tubmail immediately. Thanks! (view post) |

"Forumwarz Steno Star!" Win BPs, fame, opportunity and Carpal Tunnel! This contest ends in less than a few days!
As of now, we only have four or five entries. Please keep in mind that it’s perfectly acceptable to transcribe a section that may have already been wholly or partially transcribed!
Since we’ll be picking three winners, this is looking like a very, very easy contest to get some BP from. Please consider contributing and entering. It’s great practice for your typing skills, and the odds are good!

"Forumwarz Steno Star!" Win BPs, fame, opportunity and Carpal Tunnel!Forumwarz Steno Star!: A Creative Transcription Contest CONTEST IS CLOSED as of May 31, 2009.
Want sweet, sweet Brownie Points and the envy of your peers, using only your fingers and ears? Now’s your chance!
Forumwarz occasionally hosts and posts podcasts featuring your “favorite” Crotch Zombie employees in “exciting” sessions with Q&A, commentary, and general stream-of-semi-consciousness drivel mostly meant to be relevant to your interests. These broadcasts often contain sneak previews of upcoming content additions and changes; gameplay tweaks and nerfs; and other potentially helpful information along with a chance to drift into a sensual lull to the sound of the staff’s voice.
Not everyone has the time, patience or gastrointestinal fortitude to listen to a full broadcast, however. Accordingly, in an effort to make these broadcasts more accessible, this contest is being run in the hope of making full transcripts of these broadcasts available to all. In text form they’ll become skimmable, searchable, and ready to be referenced, mocked and held to account. In return, we’re offering Brownie Points and opportunities!
Sound lucrative and self-important enough for you? Great! Read on; here’s what’s involved.
You’ll be asked to download and transcribe a five-minute section of the latest Forumwarz podcast, hosted by Jalapeno Bootyhole. (I know, I know. Please don’t run away, though. Hear me out. We’ll get through this together.)
Your transcription should be as word-accurate and legible as possible, just like any other transcript. An example of a professional transcript can be found here. That’s a little boring and sterile, though, so there’s a twist:. In addition to being well-formatted, clear and accurate, you are asked to make your best attempt to entertain and convey the nuances of what you hear. This can be anything from describing awkward silences, fumbled words, bodily noises, technical difficulties, lapses into Canuck accentuation and even generally describing the spirit of a portion of monologue.
Use your imagination, but don’t go overboard. Remember that the purpose of the transcript is primarily to convey the actual words and content, not to tell your own story. Readers should be able to easily tell the main content from any editorial notes.
Got the idea? Able and interested? Follow these steps to enter!
****ed that you haven’t heard what the prizes are, yet? Okay, here you are!
There will be future transcription jobs available, so this contest also serves to gather a pool of potential willing and talented stenographers to type up and wikify them, for similar payment (and, according to JB, the possibility of an official stenographer’s E-Peen™). You’ll be doing the community a great service, too.
Where’s the small print? The terms? The conditions? Everyone loves conditions!Yeah, okay, there are some. Here it they are:
By entering, you agree to have most or all of your transcription work officially published on and used by Forumwarz and Crotch Zombie Productions, most likely in the Spoilerpedia. Your work will be credited to you and you will retain final say in case of it ever being used elsewhere.
You are not obligated to participate in any future transcription opportunities either by winning or losing, and this is not to be considered a professional “real job.”
Entries will be judged primarily on accuracy, formatting, legibility, and enjoyability. You hold Crotch Zombie Productions harmless for any damages incurred to your hands, ears, and/or mental well-being from partaking in this contest, which may involve discomfort.
That’s it! Crack those fingers and become a Steno-Star!

When you offend a female, you’ll find that there are two diverging paths to resolution.
One path is to bludgeon them so severely that they forget the original slight or are physically unable to voice objection over it.
The other path is to buy them some shoes.

I agree with you, actually. This week’s forum was one very near being “cut” from my list due to historical underperformance, but due to a shortage of forums, got submitted. I watched about three of my favorite, fun entries get what seemed like a surgical and purposeful nuking, so here we are.
I promise I’ll find time to write some newer, better forums soonish.
There do seem to be people who like this week’s forum, though, so… I guess to each his or her own.
Also also, I now have no balls and apparently am going to have to afford a new pair of shoes. (view post) |

We suck and have no friends; we can at least admit it in the one case it might be a decent argument =p
Also, I probably forgot someone and they’ll hate me now. Well, too bad, maybe they should be more memorable / come to IRC!
Actually, that’s a decent argument. We’ve had people leave BoD who were in our IRC. They’d know if there were shenanigans.
Anyway, yeah. Even if we could organize perfect precision on voting, it’d be a mbumive waste of time. People whack down entries they don’t like if they spike up fast, people spike up entries they do like even if they’re not in the top 3, and **** happens like this week, where everyone’s downvoting everything to -5 just out of spite, so one of those anti-Bashy forums can win. Way to promote buildr variety, heh. (view post) |

Flamebate changes: Official Feedback ThreadI’m really impressed by the new changes. Things are so much clearer and more intuitive now, and this will surely lead to a lot less confusion and, as a result, better discussion. The look is good, and there’s still room to make slight adjustments to fit the feel of the game better if necessary, without having to do a complete overhaul. What I’m looking at, here, pretty much lets me know the FWZ staff are listening well to user feedback and criticism. In this thread itself, the rapid adjustments are nice to see, too, and bumhurt-free. Awesome.
I mostly agree with what people are saying so far, such as that being able to see the last poster in the Active Topics somehow would be useful, though I realize it’d be hard to make fit. Some option perhaps to adjust for bigger screens seems to be a popular idea, too, as does some sort of option to swap between viewing styles.
I also agree that the Klan-Only and Secret forums need to find a much more obvious location. Having them plopped by the nav bar and options is strange to say the least. Perhaps adding another slice on the way bottom of the screen, since secret would lend itself just fine to scrolling down a bit? I realize this isn’t applicable, but you also need to, after this is all done, add Klan-Only IDC chats to the game, and this secret section would be a good place for a navigation or click-through to such a thing.
For now, I only have some minor suggestions.
In the list of Roleplay forums, GOTO 10 should be moved above Klan Talk, so that all of the individual clbum forums are grouped together. As it is, Klan Talk separates the hackers from the rest of the bunch. Anonymous should probably come directly at the end of the clbum forums.
I think you should reconsider the description of Whiny ****es, since it both calls it a “Free-For-All Forum” and “Whine about the game here.” Is it a place I can post any topic at all, or just game-related? I suggest it be clearly described and/or repurposed as “Whine about anything game-related here” only.
As for General Roleplay, as it is, I think few people use it as a place to truly post in their clbum’s spirit, and instead treat it as an “anything random” forum. You might want to better enforce the roleplaying thing, along with the next suggestion.
What we’re still missing is the all-important Random ****pile forum: a forum in which any topic and language and most behaviors are acceptable. I think such a forum should be created and plopped right on top of the list, or directly underneath Whiny ****es and Klan Talk. As it is, if we follow the descriptions — if I want to use bad language, offensive speech or basically attack someone without necessarily roleplaying — the only things I can do are whine or post about the game or roleplay to some extent. My only option is to go to the IRL discussions and be very careful with my content. A Random ****pile, or perhaps Chaotic Hellhole, etcetc forum would fit nicely.
That’s all I have to say for now. Everyone else seems to be coming up with good ideas for tweaks and adjustments, and the general attitude and lack of ego or hurt feelings seems to be having everyone working really well together, and changes happening rapidly and for the best.
Awesome job. Keep up the good work, ****es.

Klan Raiding - completely reimaginedscully Posted:
And how is that? I realize I’m newer to the game, but I haven’t really seen us trolling. For at least myself, I’ve rarely engaged in that behavior, because I think that’s stupid. I have about 20 public Flamebate posts. So even if it’s true and BoD is some sort of clan who everyone hates because they’re oh-so mean and just total bumholes, everyone seems to be missing that I’m my own person and don’t care to interact in any negative capacity with anyone, for the most part.
As for chocolate scoops; if anyone’s still accusing me of getting way too many, I beg to differ. More and more people have been submitting forums and more people who care have upped their quality. We’re seeing a greater range to vote on, and seeing an end to the days of the “runaway forum” where one ends up getting as many as 200 upvotes by itself.
I have more forumbuildr score than ever, yet, I’m getting fewer chocolates than I ever used to. I win almost every week, yet I’ve been averaging only about 60 scoops a week even considering that, because of increased quantity and quality of competition, and how that results in any one person being less able to reap scoops. Basically, the exact effect I argued would at least a bit self-balance things, has come into play. I am not complaining.
Finally, Chocolate from buildr is not as strong as the other flavors. The reason even the people who have in the past got as many as 250 chocolate scoops (before others stepped up to the plate to compete) and those who actually WIN Fbduildr each week have trouble medaling is because, unlike the other colors, one cannot control at what times one gets chocolates. I become unable to hide behind the person in the scoop lead if I even play a few turns, very rapidly. Thus, while I’m eating, working, away or sleeping, I find that what happens is that scoops are added to my pile that I actually don’t want [at the time] and it attracts everyone’s stray bumholes, pretty much instantly wiping out my advantage.
Brackets are becoming larger and larger, so even a half hour of being in the lead by accident easily results in at least a couple bumholes being thrown one’s way, even those who can’t possibly have some sort of grudge.
I realize you’re still angry anyone has an advantage over you in any aspect, but you should realize it’s not particularly big for the effort devoted and addition to the game; and that you yourself surely have some skill or aspect of the game at which you have an advantage, too. The difference between us is that instead of whining and trying to have that advantage done away with, I try harder to improve at those aspects in order to compete.
I wish certain people would focus more on fixing the voting system for things like itembuildr and working on ways to make forumbuildr voting even more reliable, instead of holding up one or two people in the entire game as proof the system is broken, when even those tiny exceptions don’t have much of a lead, and in any event, that lead was built by effort and winning over hundreds of other submissions over the months.

all right, seriously, it's time we rethought how buildr worksHoly ****. I just got out of bed and saw plk’s graph, there.
She makes graphs, too? I think I just came in my sleep pants, which have penguins on them. Maybe I’m engaged to the wrong person.
If you can get the graph to look like a male reproductive organ and balls, I’ll explode.
Anyway, yeah, scaling. Please pay attention to my posts, as just halving the buildr score would indeed be a wet bandaid. The scaling is the second half of the adjustment. Plk’s thing: that’s what I’m talking about with the scaling. I think the arguments would be in the shape of the curve, not in whether scaling should occur.
It’ll probably end up being like the arguments between Liberals and Conservatives over the shape of the Laffer curve.
OH EM GEE MORE NERD SPOOGE. Okay, that’s enough for today. (view post) |
