You mean the SNES one, or DDS2 on the PS2?
The SNES one was very good, but I only ever played it emulated. I’m sure it was just my version, but the game got stupidly easy after a while. And there was this one bug which gave me 40+ stat points in one level-up. Which I reloaded about.
Given how insane most of the other games are in terms of difficulty, I’d b hella surprised if the original game was that way. I mean, the last bosses did like 100 damage per hit. By that point my dudes all had like 800 each, with no powerlevelling at all. Log in to see images! |

I did mean the SNES one.
My love for that game came mostly from its story. Though I do tend to lean towards Nocturne in terms of gameplay preference, SMT2 still left a bigger impression on me. |

Half-life series
Legend of Zelda Series
No-one lives forever series
Broken Sword series
Sam and Max series
Mario platformers in general
And many, many others, including but not limited too Warlords Battlecry, Oblivion, MDK, Serious Sam, Deus Ex, Alone in the dark 1, Etc, Etc.
I’m also a fan of the amateur adventure community, in particular the Chzo Mythos series. For a game series drawn almost entirely using MS paint, they’re pretty damn scary.

I did an informal survey of at least 2 whole posts before skipping immediately ahead and replying because you heathens have missed the most important awesome game ever.
Earthbound.
Good god. It’s the ultimate RPG, and brings something along with it’s core architecture that I wish had caught on, that I wish would have become the standard: the auto victory. The combat initiative stuff and enemies on the overworld was all well and good, but honestly. This game requires, as do all RPGs, a bit of a grind to toughen up and tackle the big evil forces in the world. However, as you get more powerful, it eliminates the GODDAMN TEDIUM OF THE GRIND. Sure, you might have to kill 91758976086 things to get to the next level, but all you have to do is be able to find them. The game knows you can kick their bum without question, so it doesn’t waste your time and immediately commences the fellating/victory music/what-have-you, and you can instantaneously move on.
Hint hint, nudge nudge, ET, hint hint, nudge nudge. Replay value skyrockets when the game doesn’t make you want to gouge your eyes out just to overcome some arbitrary and tedious endpoint (hopefully a sentiment that won’t apply for long to FW after Ep2, but who knows).
The other game I -did- see mentioned that requires all the reiteration it can muster:
Chrono Trigger.
New game+, multiple endings, -and- your super emo silent archetypal main character gets his bum blown up and doesn’t necessarily ever have to be revived? Awesome. New game+ was one of the coolest concepts due to the things it freed you up to try on the second go through, and I think that while other games have tried to experiment with that kind of functionality, it is difficult to do so well. |

DOPE-HARDCORE-0 Posted:Sucked bum. Well, maybe not, but I didn’t like it at all. Four limited inventories to keep track of is needlessly annoying. The combat system is extremely unbalanced, some attacks do nothing while others kill you outright, unless you quit the battle before your health bar is updated. How the hell does that make sense? |

Earthbound is more than just a game, though. I’m still not sure whether I should view it as being wonderful or pretentious or wonderfully pretentious, though.
It’s been mentioned many times how much commentary the developers put into the game about their lives and the way they view games.
One example, apparently the dialogue during the final battle is based on a traumatic childhood experience when one of the developers walked into the wrong movie theatre and saw a part of some tentacle-enjoy hentai movie. |

Earthbound or Mother 1.
Both have excellent music, awesome game play. So what if Earthbounds health system wasn’t perfect it was nice and trippy. And the final battle of Earthbound is based on the creators experiance when he walked into the wrong movie and saw a enjoy scene and the nightmares that proceeded it. Hopefully Mother 3 will eventually come to america. |
