My friend’s birthday is coming up and I get to host it. He’s a special education teacher.
AS A RESULT AND SINCE I AM A TERRIBLE PERSON, I am throwing a themed party. He doesn’t know this yet.
However, the theme is . . . well, special ed.
I’m trying to come up with a good menu, and I would very much appreciate ideas — some folks here have already contributed.
So far, here’s what I have:
drink: fetal alcohol Citron
desserts: pineapple upside-Downs cake and mangoloid pudding
food: Asburgers and chicken seizure salad
I still need other food ideas, dips, etcetera — they should be in the same style as the above examples.
If you post a name for a dish that I choose to make, I’ll send you a BP or two. Log in to see images! |

O man, I thought of a couple others that night we first talked about but now I can’t remember!
Shortbus-kabobs was one of them, or if you wanted yet another desert, strawberry short(bus)cake.
I’ll try really hard to remember the others!
EDIT: tkf beat me to it cause i’m typin slow trying to remember Odalisque edited this message on 06/29/2008 11:18PM |

Carrots and chipotle seem like they’d be tough to combine, really.
I like the “special” sauce idea a lot, though; any ideas for ingredients?
Odal, I owe you BP for your pineapple upside-Downs cake!
Strawberry shortbus cake is another possibility; I’m undecided on that one. |

CarRett Dip with Cretin croutons.
INGREDIENTS: * 1 pound carrots, peeled, trimmed, and cut into 1-inch chunks * 1/4 cup water * 2 to 3 cloves of garlic, peeled and finely chopped * 3/4 teaspoon peeled and grated fresh ginger * 1/2 teaspoon paprika * 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon * 1/4 teaspoon coriander * 2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice * 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil * Freshly chopped parsley for garnish (optional) PREPARATION: Place the carrots and water in a small saucepan, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. As soon as the water begins to boil, reduce the heat to low, cover, and steam the carrots until they are very tender, about 15 minutes. In a food processor, immersion blender, or regular blender, puree the carrots. Add the garlic, ginger, paprika, cinnamon, coriander, and lemon juice, and continue to process until the mixture is smooth. Drizzle in the olive oil, and process just until it is well-blended. Transfer the carrot dip to a serving dish, and allow to cool. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley just before serving, if desired. Serve at room temperature or chilled with pita chips, crusty bread or crudites. Carrot dip will keep, well covered in the refrigerator, for up to 3 days.

You could do something with dissociative identity dip (using a 7 layer dip and tortilla chips.) That would go better with your menu, but doesn’t fit quite as well with the theme.

you can call the whole buffet “Special Edibles” and hire short bus boys.
For folks that don’t drink, you could have some LemonADHD.
That’s the best one I can think of. Some of the weaker ones:
