Leaderboard E-Peen: Good or Bad?

What are people’s ideas on this?
As I see it, the E-Peen for Cred, Flezz, and maybe Most Forums are good, because it convinces people to give up the top spot and let other people circulate in. I just topped the Flezz leaderboard today, but over the last couple days, other people who reached the top tubmailed me and told me that they’d back down so I could place. I myself similarly decided to stock up on consumables rather than keep grinding. If there was no reward, the person at top would probably stay there.
On the other hand…putting cheese at the end of the maze has been bad for the Popularity and Forum leaderboards, with all kinds of spam and breaking on the forums. Log in to see images!

Rules against excessive spam leader to bans and post count zeroes anyone…Or can anyone modify post count without deleting posts? |

I am going for the cred epeen right now, almost there!
I have topped the most pwned for a while, but it’s hard to back down when you are still trying to win another epeen. After I get the cred epeen I will probably take a break and let others have at it. |

The problem with both the friendship and flamebate leaderboards were that they were ridiculously easy to game prior to the modifications. People will continue to try to game them as long as the totals seem doable.
The other leaderboards take a bit more time and planning to top. However I don’t really expect Paraone to quit playing so that other people have an easier time topping the most cred or to have any shot of getting the most forums pwned epeen.
