This is pretty much the best thing ever.
So you’re a wizard, and you’ve got eight elements. Fire, Water, Life, and so on. You can combine up to five of those elements and create a spell. Any combination will result in a new spell based on the properties of its elements.
Once you’ve chosen the elements of a spell, you can select any target for the spell. You can heal enemies if you want to. You can drop a big rock on your own head. You can set your friends on fire or obliterate them with a death ray.
Humorous references are scattered throughout the campaign. When inspecting a dead moose, one of the characters remarks that ”...only goblin rangers are so precise.” The narrator, Vlad, insists that he is not a vampire, and tells you to go on all kinds of insane quests, knowing that you will follow them blindly because that’s how video games work.
The game is most fun with at least two players so make sure you grab a friend before you start going through the adventure. Remember: If your friend dies, you can steal his weapon! |

Playing through this with 3 friends is a blast.
Note: You will die from friendly fire more than one time. |

That’s like buying Borderlands for the single player.

You miss out on a lot of good games if you don’t consider multiplayer at all. |

Looks incredible.
I initially mistook it as Baldur’s Gate from the 3/4 isometric view, but from what Nillo described, I’m even more impressed because it sounds like how I used to sanbox Baldur’s Gate after beating the game a thousand times over. The Mage clbum had all sorts of versatility and was easy to work up emergent gameplay subplots, especially if one had access to the scripting commands, which just invited for all sorts of experimentation. Emergent gameplay was a big reason I played stuff like Doom II, One Must Fall 2097 and MS Paint for 6 years.
Regardless, this is an insta-buy for me. I just hope it’s cheap.
It is, isn’t it, Crinkz? |

Eh, multiplayer is still buggy with crashes. Usually, if we can play a full chapter, there won’t be another crash. |

I want this game so hard. It may just eclipse my miserly ways and get full retail from me. Paying retail hurts me somewhere deep in my soul, but Magicka looks like that mythical game I’ve been wanting ever since I first played Guantlett on the NES. Such inner conflict, suitable for my clbum RP but is really just me stoned on my day off.
So, is Magicka really as awesome as it looks? |

Single player, it loses it’s charm after a couple chapters. Multiplayer, I’m still finding it fun just ****ing around with friends, we are pretty much constantly dieing/getting blown off the map by each other whether it be on purpose or accidental(most of the time it’s accidental, ****ing beam spells.) |

Well, I got it. Strangely because of the Ubisoft deal. I really wanted to get bumbumin’s Creed at the roughly 30% off special but couldn’t justify buying it and not Magicka. So I got both. I feel dirty, for some reason.
I’ll be playing Magicka soon as it finishes the install. I’ll let you know if it’s as good as I expect or if my pc just won’t run the damn thing. ****ing Grotesque Tactics, you and Poker Night at the Inventory, ****ing my pc like a ****. |
