Ninjas never wore black IRL they would just wear disguises and usually dress up as their enemy to blend in. In Japanese theater (like plays) they were portrayed in all black because the stagehands in Japanese theater wore all black to be less noticeable so that is where the misnomer of Ninjas wearing black came from.
