Politics of Burkina Faso takes place in a framework of a presidential republic, whereby the President of Burkina Faso is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The party system is dominated by the Congress for Democracy and Progress. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
There are currently a slew of parties competing for the control of the government. The parliamentary parties are:
* African Independence Party * Alliance for Democracy and Federation-African Democratic Rally o Alliance for Democracy and Federation o African Democratic Rally * Congress for Democracy and Progress * Convention for Democracy and Federation * Convergence for Social Democracy * National Convention of Progressive Democrats * National Rebirth Party * National Union for Democracy and Development * Party for Concord and Progress * Party for Democracy and Progress / Socialist Party * Party for Democracy and Socialism * Rally of Democrats for the Faso * Rally of the Ecologists of Burkina * Sankarist Democratic Front * Sankarist Pan-African Convention * Union for Rebirth / Sankarist Movement * Union for the Republic * Union of Patriots for Development
Many other parties exist, but due to unimportance and text constraint, I won’t mention them. |

In other words, they had a communist revolution, everyone loved the guy in charge, some guy shot the guy in charge, and the guy who had him shot has been in charge for the last 20 years. |

a sarcastic post, oh my!
I hope you’re not belittling the importance of Burkina Faso or its people, their freedom and their safety simply because it doesn’t effect your own life. |

Wonder if he’ll be backing a specific replacement. Or maybe just overthrow his own government. That would be a neat trick. Log in to see images! |
