Probably that whole Episode 4 bit, that ‘A New Hope’ was the fourth movie. You can’t have four in a trilogy, or that’s what my english teacher told me. |

From what I remember from my teenager Star Wars fanboy times, there were supposed to be nine episodes, but George Lucas shortened episodes IV-IX to three. Also he started with episode IV cause Lucas thought, with the available effects budget, the earlier episodes couldn’t be done properly. Log in to see images! |

The film was originally released as Star Wars, without Episode IV or the subtitle A New Hope. The 1980 sequel, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, featured an episode number and subtitle in the opening crawl. lucas wrote is as 9 parts. but a new hope was realeased as a single film as far as the studio was concerned. they didnt think it would be one of the biggest anythings ever so they didnt take the chance signing the sequels immediatly. sdgrbbum09 Posted: |

No one can really say how many movies were in the original plan, but I guaran-****ing-tee you that George Lucas didn’t have midichlorians, Gungans, and podracing floating around in his head in 1977.
