I prefer blind stupid optimism. |

Is it about money? yes. Are there secret male reproductive organes in coke ads telling me to buy more? No. All that really needed to happen was this sentence in the quote. A bunch of paranoid junk about how disney and coke are using subliminal sex to sell their product is silly. There’s plenty of reality out there that backs up the premise that ads are a kind of corrupting influence. However, they were easy to ignore before and they’re only getting easier, and there is more choice about what media to read and consume than there ever was before.
That’s a bigger problem these days, imo. A lot of people will spend so much time on some bit of silliness like oh say, the moon landing, and completely ignore that NARA is constantly declbumifying material and making all kinds of interesting and relevant stuff available for public consumption.
NARA is also awesome. I like their site a lot: http://www.archives.gov/ I think the exhibits section is particularly cool. http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/ |

I’m a little disturbed that in that last two posts all you’ve seemed to take away from that article is male reproductive organ sucking. (You have to admit, they were pretty successful at making that stick in your mind.) You got this logic like, oh well there’s one thing questionable, so therefore the whole thing is bogus. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
And yes, they do use sexual advertisement and some of it is meant to appeal the subconscious mind. Why the hell wouldn’t they? The coke thing, maybe a coincidence, but that’s a deck chair on the Titanic. You’re ignoring the bigger issue. Still, you can’t look at that pack of Skittles and say they didn’t know what they were doing. It’s almost so obvious I’m surprised they did it. |
