On an unrelated note, but still affecting my decision: I’ve never really been comfortable having my identity so open and available to public scrutiny, as has been the case here. Even though I try to hide it, I can admit that the constant criticism, contempt and second-guessing does tend to affect me. I know this is expected in every industry, but rarely do you have to face it so directly. I have to say, I’m looking forward to going back to the professional world where a degree of civility is expected, and not just urged.
