Ugh, they should just discontinue Hummers altogether – it’s impossible not to look like a total douche when you’re driving that thing, even if you might not be. But hey, if they can downsize their line and make room for more fuel-efficient and innovative cars, I’m all for it, really. I wish we could do it in a way that just allowed for the natural death of these monstrosities, but if that’s not possible at least the Hummers are in China – and the pollution there is so bad a few Hummers probably won’t change a thing xD

I also belong to the group that is happy to see them gone, with one important issue with them. They were designed for military use, and I don’t want to see overseas ownership either diminish the quality or reduce their usefulness to the army. Except that, I am happy that they are no longer American, and I hope this dramatically cuts down on domestic consumer purchases of them.

Oh, yeah, I would definitely not want to see our military capabilities reduced… but I think that’s probably not that big an issue. The model for a military jeep-type vehicle would certainly have specifications different than a consumer product, so offloading the consumer model shouldn’t have an impact anyway. Also good to know that it’s more a matter of being owned by a Chinese corporation, as I suppose that preserves jobs and whatnot… although I dunno. I think I’d still rather just not have them at all xD

In all actuality Honda and Nissan really are the most “American made” car manufacturers, yes they may be Japanese companies but the majority of bumembly within both companies is done here in the United States. Making the majority of the employees paid for the process of bumembly going to Americans.

Also maybe more people would be interested in buying GM/Ford/Chrysler and their sister companies products if they were more reliable and efficient.

This has been pretty much my reaction. “Why are we infusing money into auto companies that don’t make cars Americans want to buy? Why shouldn’t they go bankrupt, and then we sell the facilities to companies that do make cars Americans want to buy?”

Likewise, I laughed out loud when news companies talked about the Pontiac line disappearing. “Gone will be the clbumic, iconic, blahblahblah.” Uhm, yeah, clbumic Pontiacs were cool. People loved them. The Pontiacs that have been coming out lately? Not so much. That’s why they sold so poorly the line had to be retired. Duh.

Watching the govt prop up companies that kept promising they could break even with a complete company overhaul… in just a couple years… really, we promise… blech. Buying “American Made” used to be a good idea, because it was a sign of quality and had the added benefit of keeping money in the economy. With better, more popular, more efficient cars being made by Americans under different company names, I see no reason why this is yet another exception to the “let the market decide” approach the other side of the aisle kept talking about.
