The contest is now closed. I’d like to personally thank everyone who posted in this thread, some wonderful music was posted here regardless of whether you won or not. The Winrar is Shii with O Fortuna (was posted a few times but he/she/it was first) I picked it because the piece just seemed perfect, I could really picture the fight and it seemed exactly like the sort of thing that my character would like and have playing. Well done Shii, I will transfer the BP now to the rest feel free to troll the **** out of this thread until a mod closes it Log in to see images! Log in to see images! Lux Aeterna – Clint Marshall.
It might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s been used in the same types of scenes you’re describing before. |

Slightly cliched, but Carmina Burana: O Fortuna is the clbumic piece used in these bits.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuERh0jBjh8
Also, another good one I’m quite fond of is Verdi: Dies Irae, but unfortunately, the ending isn’t very climactic. The first half is VERY aggressive and climactic, so I would suggest simply using the first half.

I do love clbumical, and I would suggest more; but most of the others have been taken.
Good luck on your piece! Shii edited this message on 01/01/2009 2:21PM |

Just the other night, on the hot deal forum, amazon was offering 99 of Beethoven’s most essential songs for $1.99. I decided to order it. Reviews are decent, all those songs for $1.99? Thats cheap and why not? Its well done, and nice to listen to sometimes. Price has changed since then. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001NWULS0 |

OTOH, looking in the comments for Gustav Holst’s “Mars the Bringer of War”, since it was composed in the 20th century, I am not sure if that qualifies. Use your judgment.
Edit: Gaaaaaaah, did not notice that someone else also recommended it, I r need reading comprehension skillz. StrangeVicious52 edited this message on 01/01/2009 3:55PM |

How come you want music in a novel?
Hoping that somebody will make a film about it one day? |

Log in to see images! The music is a bit of a self indulgence of mine. It will help me write the fight and picture it, I was thinking of an enormous orchestra playing it outside during the fight, as Mr Griffin is the ruler of the world after all. Like I said Tubmail me if your curious about it, it will probably take years to write anyway, as I already mentioned I am highly lazy! |

I’m going to make an unorthodox suggestion, since all the obvious ones have been made, and recommend “The Hut of Baba Yaga” by Mussorgsky, Ravel’s orchestration. Salonen conducts the opening part at a really fast tempo, which I think fits well with your project. The song is actually about a man being harbumed by an evil witch, and there’s a bit in the middle where he seems to be getting away but finding her around the corner before the real chase resumes (1:00-2:00 in the video I’m linking). Also, this song is usually performed back to back with the next song as the finale of the “Pictures at an Exhibition” suite, which starts in the video at 2:58. The first chord at 2:58 is the end of “Baba Yaga” and the beginning of the “Great Gate of Kiev”. This song is a VERY nationalistic slow fanfare (perfect for a victory song), and if you think of it as such, you will find it comically drags on. It’s the finale to a very long suite, and it’s basically one big long coda.
