Defective Two Party System (USA)Honestly, Amp, I identify as an anarcho-communist, and I think that anarchism or communism can work, just not on a large scale, and not without the sacrifice of some of the comforts of contemporary living.
I think part of the problem is really the modern way of life that people are accustomed to. I think that communism in some form could have been successful, only the theorists who are most renowned for these theories were born after the problems of greed and abuse of power ad been in place for centuries. I’m with you that it’s frustrating that people don’t pay more attention to local and state politics, especially since they’re the people who really make decisions on your behalf. It’s baffling to me that people pay so much attention to the person who has limited power and no ability to create legislative acts (and limited ability to scrap them), and not to the people actually writing and voting on them.
I disagree that democracy works in theory only, though. The bare-bones definition of democracy is a government that is based on the consent of the people and holds regular and “fair” elections; fair at least in the sense that there are specific rules governing them and the rules are enforced.
You can’t really say that democracy guarantees that the people will make “good” or informed choices on who represents them, only that they have the opportunity to help make the choice. (view post) |

Fully agreed on that point.
To answer the question, I’d argue that having more than two parties in the mix does not make a government inherently more democratic. There are at least a dozen prerequisites that most political scientists would agree a government must meet in order to be considered democratic… but that’s basically the political science nerd in me talking.
I agree that the “winner takes all” method of appointing elected officials sucks, and proportional representation would be more representative of the actual voice of the electorate. (view post) |

Work sucks :(So I got a job at the Dairy Queen, and my boss is a total jerk.
I got in trouble for eating the ice cream, which is BULL****! I only came to work there because I have problems with emotional eating and I thought it could cut down my grocery bill. Log in to see images!
I work with this blonde girl named Cindy. She is a total ****ing retard, and it’s not fair because everybody is nice to her, and all her friends stop by and she gets to go on long breaks while I’m stuck doing all of the work.
When I kill myself, all of these people are going to feel really bad about being so mean to me.
