Good Idea/Bad Idea? Rare ThreadsCrinkz Posted:
ET is obviously really busy—with all this cool stuff like the Christmas Raffle and the new auction system, no one can accuse the Crotch Zombie team of being lazy.
To be honest an idea as complex as this might be better saved for release with a new episode, kind of like how the webspider/.moar system was. (view post) |

Better web spiders?ChibiHermione Posted:
Yeah, I’m guessing ET just plans on one spider per episode. Having to use a simple web spider in Ep 3 would be ridiculous because if the size of media files continues to increase with forum difficulty as it did in episode 2 all the files in the final forum of Ep 3 would have something like 70 parts. Good Idea/Bad Idea? Rare ThreadsThat’s an interesting idea.
One of the potential problems with rare threads would be if they popped up randomly when someone underleveled was trying to pwn a forum for the story and wound up getting screwed over because a rare thread appeared that he wasn’t prepared for. The previous idea was just that they’d only appear after the forum has been pwned by the player at least once, but that doesn’t make much sense lore-wise. Maybe a special type of Web Spider or something would allow the player to “locate threads by important members” within a forum or something. Though I don’t want there to be too much new equipment for such a system. (view post) |

Euthanides "kills you"? What does that actually mean?FYI, Euthanides/Martyrdom actually CAN be useful for an Emo Kid. Later in the endgame emos wind up being rather underpowered because the other clbumes have super powerful attacks and monstrous offense, but it takes Emo Kids too long to take damage so their attacks can catch up. An instant suicide + life after death immediately gets you down to that level. In addition, because of the way Life After Death works, it’s impossible to accidentally get killed immediately after being revived this way. (view post) |

Nope, not at the start of the visit. Krakmunky pointed that problem out on page 1. The reason there’d need to be a whole “rare thread!” notification to begin with is because it’ll have to work so that the thread only appears after pwning a few. That way you’d have to spend a forum visit to check for a rare.
Now if only I could figure out how to get a mod/CZ person to look at this thread… Log in to see images! (view post) |

Good Idea/Bad Idea? Rare ThreadsAwesome. I’m glad this is so popular and so many people were able to help.
So, uh… is there anything really that I can do to bring this to Crotch Zombie’s attention/consideration? Write a list of all the signs and tubmail someone? Or do I just hope eventually a mod skims this thread? (view post) |

Good Idea/Bad Idea? Rare ThreadsOkay, I’ve been reading a lot of the ideas here and trying to synthesize them into something that would work. I used my permanoob to take some screenshots and edit them to simulate what this might look like (please forgive my mediocre photoshop ability, the red lines are where I cut out empty space to make the pictures a bit smaller):You enter a forum like normal and start pwning threads. If you’ve pwned the forum at least once already then you have a .5% (that’s 1/200) chance of a rare thread appearing (that’s for the entire visit, not for each thread, though depending on how the coding works this could change—maybe a .1% (1/1000) chance per thread or something). If you happen to be so lucky, after pwning a thread you might get: Log in to see images! It’s exactly the same as when a boss thread appears, only with a wonderful MSPaint quality popup. Then you’ll be sent to the thread list. Log in to see images! There it is! So long as you pwn the rare thread you’ll get the loot, so if you’re a lowbie and running short on restoratives, it might be wise to go for the rare thread first on the off chance that you won’t get through the rest of the remaining threads. Now let’s take a look inside: Log in to see images! It’s our old friend Ophelia! Yes, I know it looks awkward that all four posts are from her, but since that’s how Ravit’s boss thread was, I’m guessing it’s easier to code that way. Also note that the thread has roughly 2x the required pwnage as the other threads in Woe Is Us. Start pwning. Log in to see images! For all intents and purposes consider a rare thread just a double-powered version of a normal thread for that forum. Once you beat the thread, you’ll get your normal .moar file and maybe 2x the cred. I really didn’t think it was necessary to make another gigantic fake screenshot for that. Now when your real reward comes is in the mail the next day. If you pwned a rare thread, then your delivery will contain a gift from the character you beat. Log in to see images! Hooray! Now just take it and go to your inventory to see what it can do. Log in to see images! Why, the “special items” equip slot finally has a purpose. This is where equippable gifts from your contacts go. For obvious reasons, Ophelia’s item is best suited for an emo kid, and its stats are around the appropriate level for the level 9 forum it came from. It’s certainly a better choice to equip than that outdated old male reproductive organblaster. So…. whaddya think? EDIT: Fixed the percents for how often you could find them. Depending on the system either .5% chance per forum or .1% chance per thread. I also think I’ll add links to these pictures to the first post of the thread for easier access (view post) |

Good Idea/Bad Idea? Rare ThreadsKrakmunky Posted:
Extremely good point. It would probably make sense to have a “look! a rare thread!” or some similar little notification when one pops up, once again akin to the boss thread. Then it’ll just wait there until it gets pwned or the player loses/leaves the forum. This also might add an element of strategy for lower level players. If a player think he might not be able to make it through the forum, should he go for the rare thread now to be sure and get the item?

Also a good idea. It’s always bugged me that there’s only one item in the entire game you can get for the “special items” slot, and it quickly becomes useless once you reach episode 2. Having a wide selection of unique equips found in rare threads would add more variety to that particular equip, and also help justify making rare threads extremely rare. (view post) |

Good Idea/Bad Idea? Rare ThreadsIf the .moars you get were unique and incomplete then obviously the chances of finding rare threads would have to be higher. For fully bumembled files or multiple pieces that could be obtained in other forums a really low chance seems fair.
Plus, if they were rare enough, there would be more likely to be an e-peen or something or finding one. (view post) |

Good Idea/Bad Idea? Rare ThreadsI’m not sure where exactly I came up with this. Probably from the rare monsters in FFXII or something.
Anyway, would it be cool if maybe when you entered a forum to pwn it, there was a very small chance (I’m talkin’ real small, <1% here) for a “rare thread” to pop up. It’d have its own little blinky “rare” topic logo or something, and be made by one of your sTalk contacts on his/her specific forum or a forum appropriate for the character—for example: you could see an Ophelia thread at Woe is Us, something from THE_**** on Fitness fabulous personry, Doctor O on the Permanoob forum, et al. They’d have one “typical post” in the thread at the start, and when you start pwning the thread (which would ideally have more pwnage than a normal thread kinda like the “boss threads” from the near the end of episode 2) they’d have a few special angry replies—imagine getting Ophelia’s bad poetry used against you Log in to see images!
I’m not totally sure what the rewards would be. The obvious option would be rare .moar related stuff. Maybe three or four .moar files from a higher level forum, or a fully bumembled media file form the forum you’re pwning.
Obviously not a pressing issue, just an interesting idea I had.
UPDATE Thanks for all the great input, guys Log in to see images!
