Personally, I think all of those images are equally acceptable. If we allow one of them, we should allow any of them. But more to the point, if I start spamming the picture of the ostrich 50 times, that’s nonconstructive spam and really shouldn’t be allowed. That’s not to say I shouldn’t be allowed to post the ostrich (it’s a very attractive ostrich), but saying that there’s some validity to posting that ostrich 50 times since I can post it once? That’s absolutely asinine.

Limiting the number of images is really the only solution (for RP.) There’s really nothing wrong with dragons, done in moderation. Nor is there anything wrong with gay porn, done in moderation. The problem is “lack of moderation.”

Take an image, post it once. That’s not spam (usually). Take anything, post it fifty times? It’s spam. If the problem is spam, limit the number of images.

I already explained that the image limit shouldn’t apply in non-RP. The non-RP forums are fine. The only forums on flamebate that suck are the RP ones.

Plus “limit the image not the number of images” is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen on Flamebate, and that’s no small feat. One image, by itself, is seldom annoying unless it depicts something that is in and of itself objectionable. Five images, by themselves, are almost never annoying unless they depict something that is in and of itself objectionable. FIFTY GODDAMN PICTURES OF THE SAME THING? That’s annoying no matter what it’s an image of.

More than five images, but no more than five of the same to me is pretty good, you will never need more than five of the same. It doesn’t fix dragons, just the spam.

Fran asked to have the contest closed until she got more BP. Im not sure how true that is, but if she did not ask that, or did not with enough time, ban her. But she says she’s leaving, most likely a flounce, but still it blows. Wylin if you can honestly say the forums haven’t degraded than fine, but for the rest of us, it has and its sad.

A Forumbuildr Etiquette Question

Thanks. Being -5ed in the first hour or so of submissions is really disappointing when it’s a joke that you’ve been tossing around in your head for a week or so. Has there ever been any talk of removing the “-5 or less and you’re gone” thing for the first 24 hours or so of submissions? It’s really very intimidating to people who are just dipping their toes in the forumbuildr waters to see what it’s like.

I’m wondering if anybody has a suggestion. I’m running out of common dragons to raise, and I don’t want a ton of duplicates. There are a lot of types of dragons I haven’t been able to get my hands on, I wonder if anybody has any suggestions as to how to get my hands on them?

I’m currently looking for: Stone and two-headed in addition to weirder things like silver, gold, paper, dinos, chickens, etc.

Is breeding the only way to get a bunch of weird dragons?

How often are people going to want to post more than five dragons in a single post? You can only have 5 eggs at a time (and four hatchlings, true), but I don’t see how this changes dragons at all.

Suggestion:

Make the limit 5 images per post in RP and have no limit in non-RP. If someone has a legitimate reason for posting a lot of images in non-RP, that’s fine. If people spam or otherwise behave like jerks in non-RP, ban them like you do currently.

Edit: It’s not as though image spam is actually any sort of a problem in non-RP these days. No need to punish non-RP folks for the jerkery that goes on in the RP forums.

I think we can make it work if we just look at great timesulative extremity. If you post one particularly extreme image somewhere, that may be worth a ban. But if you post one not-particularly-extreme image IN EVERY FREAKIN’ THREAD ON FLAMEBATE, that might add up to count as one extreme graphic. Just integrate over the whole curve to get total extremity, and have goatse and suchlike be delta-functions.

So maybe the rule should be “Don’t post extreme graphics or graphics extremely”.
