ITT: KPC FORUM INFO LEAKEDTo clarify: I have no issue with a thread not being entertaining to everyone. I have no issue with a thread being interesting only to the people in it. I have no issue with closed-off story arcs in RP. I have no issue with any of that.
However, since I started SRSLY to encourage RP, I am very interested in what causes RP to stagnate and what prevents it from spreading. As a result, I have attempted to figure out what hinders some threads from taking off — so that’s why I’ve noted that closed-off story arcs do tend to lead to people not participating. It’s not a criticism at all, only a note as to what I can try to do to improve. (view post) |

ITT: KPC FORUM INFO LEAKEDYes, to summarize my entire input into RP as a whole right now:
RPing as a person is easier than RPing as part of a group.
RPing as a group is dangerous because it can lead to the RP being closed off and outsiders not participating (bumuming that the goal is to get the outsiders to participate, which is what my goal has always been).
RP as a whole would (in my opinion) benefit from outsiders participating since it rejuvenates the storyline.
RP that seems too closed off leads to people a) considering it TL;DR (even though I read it anyway because I just like RP, gosh) or b) not something they feel comfortable participating in.
ETA: I think that the “closed-off group” idea applies to SRSLY RP as well as TGC — I’m not singling anyone out with this. (view post) |

ITT: KPC FORUM INFO LEAKEDWhat SORT of TSB alts? There were a lot of TSB folks, so were you getting people who were active, who were core TSB’ers, or were you getting new folks who weren’t as grounded within the TSB structure?
If it was the latter, that may be why it didn’t take off properly?
ETA: I see that you had a few that were core TSB’ers, but I think that nana’s comment re: it not being something that could be participated in by outsiders is very, very relevant to this entire debate — so much RP is not accessible to those not involved in it, and I think that’s much of the problem. Nana has actually always supported RP — and has always stated that she enjoys participating in it — but she does tend to not always see RP that’s directed at her (case in point, Eirairaianna stalking her for a bit).

TGC absolutely did step up for a bit, and some of the combined antics were fantastic. However, it seems like activity has genuinely slowed down — I don’t know if posters are absent or if new storylines just haven’t become available or what, but I can see why Club Powar is gaining re-res since it’s an active RP that’s ongoing.

ITT: KPC FORUM INFO LEAKEDThat’s sort of the point I’m making, though you can generally find me in IDC pretty much daily, and I’m at least looking at the boards (if not posting) much of the day as well.
I would say about half of the klan has gone inactive, and that half, unfortunately, includes some really great RPers like Kerri, Aleks, Aelfrhian, and R I O T. I’m hopeful that they’ll come back at some point and I’m hopeful that at some point, this place will become a more welcoming environment for RP in general.
Clearly I hope a lot.

Adding to this response: I think the best thing for non-RPers to do is to at least try. Even troll RP, which is MEANT to **** up a thread, would work well in emo threads, and could lead to delightful instances of threatening suicide on the internets. (view post) |

In all honesty, I think that most of us in SRSLY sort of feel like there are real roadblocks towards posting any real RP. Emo RP often gets ignored (or just smacked down) — even threads that I really thought would be successful. Example:

That’s emo RP, and while there was a spirited effort there to keep it alive (and while it gave other emos every opportunity to post some writings of their own, nothing ever happened.
Camwhore RP is tough — but right now, who would want to try to RP a camwhore when the entire camwhore RP forum is entirely taken over by troll postings? Look at the first four pages and identify how many posts are actually camwhore related. On top of that, one of the pioneers of RPing a camwhore — Escher — appears to have disappeared, and no one has really stepped up to replace her.
Troll RP — well, that’s certainly off and going well, but since it’s RPing something that many posters are already doing, there’s not many SRSLY folks who actually RP as trolls.
Re-re RP — Actually, the re-res kind of have the upper hand in terms of RP lately, especially with the work done by Captain Soda, Eirairaianna, and others.
Still, what can we do to encourage more RP? We tried contests, and people actually stopped entering them, even though it was free BP if you just RP’d. Suggestions are welcome, SRSLY. (view post) |
