This week's forum is a total ripoff.Lee_Harvey_Oswald Posted:
First, my entire life doesn’t depend on this game, but I’m not going to let anyone slander me here, either.
Second, your using of sexual orientation as an insult, combine with ‘nobody cares’ attitude, shows that you’re extremely immature.
Third, the original intention of creating this thread is to report the current ForumBuildr forum as plagiarized idea. That fact still stands despite all the thread derailments and ad hominem attacks from mterek.
And finally, people with responsibilities do care about it. Evil Trout, for one, does, because this plagiarism problem directly affects the game itself. As long as the problem is not resolved, the thread is going to stay here. (view post) |

This week's forum is a total ripoff.Off-topic once again, because mterek fails to understand human language
——————————————— mterek Posted:
Sheesh. You haven’t read what I wrote, have you, mterek? Which part of the extremely detailed design process you don’t understand? Perhaps it was my fault for trying to explain too much, because you don’t seem to have the concentration and mindpower to read more than one paragraph.
Let’s me recap the whole thing for you TL;DR generation out there:
1. Recently, all my styles are submitted on Thursday, within a few hours after the logo has been determined. 2. It is possible that my first submitted style isn’t doing well. In that case, I resubmit, tweaking a few things. 3. For PeTV and Nientendö, my styles were submitted first, gained early lead, never came down, and won in a landslide. 4. I used GIMP to pick best colors. Right color set is halfway to victory. After that, it’s minor tweaking to please the viewers. 5. I never claimed my self to be the best style submitter ever. I just happened to win a lot lately. Don’t put your word in my mouth. 6. Why do I win amidst many similar styles? Because I care about details. I don’t rush my job and keep everything as default, like you. 7. All your accusations are incorrect and false.
was Posted: Although this was your quote, the following response isn’t directed at you, was...
I dare you. I ****ING DARE YOU. I dare you to go tell the mods. I dare you to call for an investigation of any possible voting fraud.
After ghax’s voting scam, do you really think that Crotch Zombie is going to let that happen again? Instead of admitting that I can design styles that people like, and you can’t, you have to come up with false accusation based on false observation. You insult not only my victory, but my reputation, and my integrity as well.
How about this? If the mods can find any hint of fraud, or alt abuse on my part, let them Permaban me and strip all my design E-Peens. But if they can’t find anything suspicious, let they ban you instead for slandering and ad hominem attacks. I think it’s only fair this way. Because frankly, you can’t accuse someone of fraud, have your accusation proven false, and get away with it.
So, do you dare to accept my challenge? If you do, go ahead and tell the mods to investigate. Otherwise, SHUT UP.
P.S. Since the forum is a total ripoff, I’m boycotting it the same way I boycotted Fran Is Fat. This means I’m neither submitting nor voting. So this is the chance for you to prove yourself. Try to win it instead of accusing others as hack designers and cheaters. (view post) |

Well, I thought of posting it as a new thread, “My style design principle”, or something like that. But that seems too much like self-promotion. And it’s likely to generate hatred instead of admiration. So I decided to reply in this thread, where the accusation started.
And sorry for the length. But since mterek doesn’t seem to understand how my designs win, and had to resort to calling me copier and cheater who use trivial gimmicks to win. So I have to go on in details on how I actually do it. (view post) |

This week's forum is a total ripoff. This is completely off-topic. But it’s my own thread. And it’s me who is unfairly accused. I don’t feel like starting a new thread just for it. So please bear with it, or skip this post otherwise. ———————————————
mterek Posted: So, I’m both a sore loser and a hypocritical plagiarist? Now I’m very disappointed. I don’t expect this to come from someone like you. And what the hell is mysteriously downvoted? Are you implying that I commit voting fraud, as well?
I don’t know what do you mean by “most” of my style. As far as I can remember, I have won in style design only 6 times. There were TravelAnimosity (June 28) and RAWR (July 26). Then recently I hit a streak AskThieves, Outside, PeTV, and Nientendö, missing only Fashion Fascists. (Seven wins, if you count BattleThreadz Lamebait.) I don’t think you can remember the first two wins of mine, so I’m bumuming you are ****ed off because of my most recent wins.
And every one of them, I submitted early. PeTV and Nientendö in particular gained huge leads on all competitors from start to finish. For PeTV, I consider them my masterpiece. It won in a landslide. For Nientendö, I never really like it, because the logo that narrowly lost was mine (hence the bitter style name “Seriously, the other loger [sic] is better.” ) I submitted the style and left it there in disgust. Turned out it won.
For the other two, I still submitted them early. And as you said, doing well for some time before being voted down. What do I do? I resubmit. I already know the colors used, I just tweaked some little things and submitted again, and won. For example, when the style Brave New World for Outside didn’t do well enough, I changed a few things and submitted it as Brave New World Redux, which won.
So, as you can see, your accusation of “most” of my style are carbon copies are false. If I was plagiarizing anyone, it was myself. And I believe there is no rule against submitting more than one styles, or submitting styles with a few minor differences from others.
As for my “secret” for successful design? This: Shii Posted: It’s intuitive, really. The style must match the logo. You can’t pick an entirely different set of colors and hope to win. Because it usually turns out very ugly (unless you’re a damn good artist who can get away with that.)
So how do I pick the right colors? With GIMP. Its color picker tool can show color code in RGB format (i.e. 000000 – FFFFFF) which is, of course, perfect to use in ForumBuildr style submission. I downloaded GIMP to use in designing logo and topic icons for Web 1.0 Veterans in August. Before that, only two of my styles won. None of them required precise color selection. RAWR consisted of primary colors: black, white, and red, which is very easy to select. And TravelAnimosity used an entirely different set of colors (and yes, I could get away with that, and I consider it another of my masterpiece.) With help from GIMP’s color picker, I can get the exact colors, leading to my recent winning streaks.
This method doesn’t always work, though. In a logo with few primary colors, it can get boring quickly. That’s why my styles for Doprah’s Book Cult, Pushy Parents, and Fashion Fascists didn’t win. The winning styles are from people who use their own imaginations and add/tweak colors around so they aren’t too repetitive.
mterek Posted: The keyword is seemingly generic. You see, when styles are so similar (forced by colors of the logo), it’s minor details that count. You think dramatic changes are unnecessary, because default font and margins are good enough. Voters, on the other hand, see them as boring. Hell, I’ve seen people complaining about how tables are always 600 pixels wide, center aligned, even though they look best that way (and I, for one, will not going to change it, no matter how repetitive it is.)
And you want to know my secret criteria on how to choose font and margins? Easy, there are three fonts. Since Courier has a very limited use, we actually has two. What’s their difference? Arial is tall and thin, Verdana is short and wide. If the forum logo uses tall and thin texts, I switch to Arial. If texts are short and wide, I leave the font at Verdana. Simple as that. Of course, if the logo itself uses either of these fonts, it is an obvious choice to use in the design as well. For Courier, I once tried using it in Outside, because the logo itself used it. Turned out, Courier-font-using Brave New World was voted down. So I switched to Arial, which the logo also used (Arial Black, or maybe Narrow Condensed), resubmitted with exact same colors as Brave New World Redux, and won.
For margins, there are no rule at all. I choose what looks best. Design is art, after all. For my 6 winning styles, two have body margins, one have body and logo margins, and the other three have none. Also, half of them use Arial fonts, the rest use the default Verdana. So your accusation of me using Arial and margins as a gimmick to win is also false.
I design all of my styles with painstaking attention to details, with correct colors, font, and margin, to create the best-looking forum, at least to me. I never rush anything. Even the Nientendö one, which I hate, I took time to pick the right colors, from a non-uniformed background with hundreds of color shades. That’s my commitment to design. If there is no way for me to top the existing designs (which is rare, because now I always submit quickly) I don’t submit and vote for it instead. Sometimes people agree with me and vote for me. Sometimes they don’t. I can live with that.
In the end, mterek, it’s you who’s not creative enough. It’s you who doesn’t care for minor details. It’s you who doesn’t change things from default. That’s why you lose. Now that I’ve told you my secrets, either follow it or devise a way to counter it. And stop complaining and accusing already.

I’m surprised at how man-man handle this, which is pretty well. And yes, the HTDTE page is hilarious. Still, it doesn’t mean someone can submit that idea as his own, let alone win it.
As for suspiciously quick submissions, if those aren’t yours (and I believe the admins can verify that,) then fine. Those logos are low quality ones which can be patched up within 30 minutes or less anyway. I’m sorry for directing my suspicion of foul play at you. After ghax’s one-man alt abuse, it’s easy to believe only one person is responsible for all the wrong things that happen.
Now if we’re going to fix this, apart from changing the description, the forum name, International Earth Destruction Advisory Board, must be changed as well. Because that too, was written by Mr.Sam Hughes. Even the word “Geocide” was thought up by him.
I offer another solution, that is contacting Mr.Hughes himself, asking if he’s okay for ForumWarz to expand upon his joke. Who knows? This could benefit both parties involved. It won’t hurt to try, will it? (view post) |

The idea is a total ripoff of Sam Hughes’s How to destroy the Earth site.
Hell, even the forum name and description is an exact, word-by-word copy of this page.
Sam Huges Posted:
So, unless man-man is actually Mr. Sam Hughes, I think he has no right to submit this idea, let alone to win it.
Ideas are also flooding in awfully quickly within minutes, including the forum logo. Just yesterday, Illuminati Job Board was in the lead (a silly idea, but still… ) How are those entries submitted so quick? Who sent them in? This is suspicious. Perhaps we have another case to investigate.
Even without other illegal tactics, it’s still wrong. A parody is one thing, a copy is another. Does ForumWarz want to bumociate itself with idea theft? Are we allowed to steal jokes and submit them in the future? (view post) |

Apply the Level 4 Newb Restriction to BuildrThat sounds like elitism. And I don’t like elitism. Log in to see images!
Still, level 4 isn’t that hard to reach. And if you are dedicated to this game, you’ll surely reach it. I myself was interested in Buildrs and INCIT after I had finished with Episode 1, because I had nothing else left to do. That was level 10.
And I don’t know how bad Flamebate had been before the restriction was in place, either. In fact, I didn’t know such restriction exist until I read this thread. Log in to see images!
So… If it would somewhat hinder ghax style illegal alts abuse, and wouldn’t hurt a dedicated new player. Then I won’t have a problem with it. Just explain to those newbies they have to hang out a while longer and I’m sure they’ll be fine.
Oh, and let’s hope the coding wouldn’t A. be too time-consuming (Flamebate restriction code can be copied, no?) B. create side effects like other recent changes. Log in to see images! (view post) |

What is the point of a lag spike?I think you’re talking about Power Spikes, mterek. And my way to combat them is to buy low level pills to act as a diversion, “meatshielding” the expensive ones.
As for Lag Spikes, I see them as moderate annoyances (Line Noises are minor annoyances, of course.) Unless in a forum with moderators, which they become major threats, slowing down your pwning, and giving chances for moderators to appear. (view post) |

But as they said, that would affect Domination Chocolate scoops. Besides, it’s kinda too late to complain at this point. So, what’s done is done. I’m going to participate in this.
And to be fair, Fashion Fascist isn’t so bad (no, I’m not a Bashy’s basher.) But it got voted down because it’s Bashy’s and it was resubmitted so many times.

So apparently someone is downvoting everythingThis one? Yes, it’s funnier. The Nazi joke is quite old by this point, but it’s still funnier than Internet Fashionistas. Fashion Fascists And the problem is, Outside lost points because of an unfair illegal multi downvoting abuse. The cheating entry We are the Knights that Wear Headsets were removed. But Outside’s score wasn’t restored and it lost again to Internet Fashionistas, a new entry submitted less than an hour before the deadline.
Sure, Outside is in the lead once again. But Internet Fashionistas shouldn’t “win” in the first place. We should be building Outside right now. And the more time pbumed, the more damage will be done, since people will submit their entries to Internet Fashionistas, making it harder to do a rollback. (view post) |
