The Society for the Preservation of ForumbuildrRonnie Blaze Posted:
While auto carry-over of some of the top ideas is a good thing, too much and too often stymies creativity. As for the upvoting/downvoting, I’d suspect that’s why so many of the ‘top ten’ remain in the cycle each and every time, and would agree. The point is that we need to retire these ideas at some point for at least a short while to force new ideas to surface.
And in the interest of not being a hypocrite, when I am able to log in these days, I do try and attend my submission duties. I’m as guilty as a lot of you of submitting awful crap, and sometimes in retrospect I’m glad things didn’t make it in. Anyhow. (view post) |

The Society for the Preservation of ForumbuildrHonestly.
This week’s idea is terrible, and not in that ‘occasional idea that sucks but gets upvoted and wins’ kind of way. This idea has been eliminated from the runnings countless times, and has only gotten through this time because there were apparently no better ideas. Continue reading, where I insinuate that allowing the continuous recycling of ideas that are this blatantly terrible cause there to be less viable builds in the overall idea pool.
Flamebate needs some sort of system whereby we can flag consistently terrible, but oft-resubmitted ideas so that they don’t stay in the pool and win by the sheer merit of being the least terrible option at a given time. By not vetting submissions that get absolutely destroyed in the votings a few times (hell we could be generous with it and cap a submission at 5 tries before it has to take a few rounds off), we leave forumbuildr open to stagnancy.
This week’s submitter (who should be perma- /hell- banned for this imho…Log in to see images!) could have taken the time to actually try and come up with an idea that didn’t suck bum, but instead just cut and pasted the same awful mess from 18 or so forumbuildr submissions ago as soon as the previous build was posted. What is the saddest part is that apparently they finally managed to use their terrorist tactics to break down the will and better judgment of the community.
Help keep forumbuildr interesting by having some sort of selective pressure applied against total **** submissions. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe submitting the same terrible idea each and every single time submissions open is meant to serve to **** people off so much that they come up with ideas that -don’t- suck, but it clearly didn’t work so end the experiment already.
...and hellban pickled male reproductive organbum for this.
Or even better, revoke his right to play in Domination.
Or place him in a domination bracket, every time, against BalanceBot.
But save all of BalanceBot’s scoops across characters and runs through the game, such that PD can never win in his domination bracket against a single opponent.
:: E: TL;DR Version 1.0 :: Terrible ideas that get destroyed in the voting over 5 times should be able to be flagged and/or automatically removed from voting for at least 5 or more full voting cycles. (view post) |

Your Favorite Games of all timeI did an informal survey of at least 2 whole posts before skipping immediately ahead and replying because you heathens have missed the most important awesome game ever.
Earthbound.
Good god. It’s the ultimate RPG, and brings something along with it’s core architecture that I wish had caught on, that I wish would have become the standard: the auto victory. The combat initiative stuff and enemies on the overworld was all well and good, but honestly. This game requires, as do all RPGs, a bit of a grind to toughen up and tackle the big evil forces in the world. However, as you get more powerful, it eliminates the GODDAMN TEDIUM OF THE GRIND. Sure, you might have to kill 91758976086 things to get to the next level, but all you have to do is be able to find them. The game knows you can kick their bum without question, so it doesn’t waste your time and immediately commences the fellating/victory music/what-have-you, and you can instantaneously move on.
Hint hint, nudge nudge, ET, hint hint, nudge nudge. Replay value skyrockets when the game doesn’t make you want to gouge your eyes out just to overcome some arbitrary and tedious endpoint (hopefully a sentiment that won’t apply for long to FW after Ep2, but who knows).
The other game I -did- see mentioned that requires all the reiteration it can muster:
Chrono Trigger.
New game+, multiple endings, -and- your super emo silent archetypal main character gets his bum blown up and doesn’t necessarily ever have to be revived? Awesome. New game+ was one of the coolest concepts due to the things it freed you up to try on the second go through, and I think that while other games have tried to experiment with that kind of functionality, it is difficult to do so well. Shock images that are no longer shocking: A dissertation on how ****ed we all are because of the internet.Goatse/tubgirl/[insert image/video here] doesn’t even make me flinch anymore. Thank you, internet.
Two girls fighting over who gets to eat a bowl full of great times, who get joined later by a third person that putatively was a camera operator or just some random pbumerby? Nope. Standard fare these days.
I know it should be disturbing, but it just isn’t.
Were it even possible to go back to the days of internet naïevity, would it be worth it?
Have I evolved to something more than human (and yes I know, pardon me for almost stealing the name of a White Zombie song you bumholes)?
ITT: Share things that should be severely psychologically disturbing for you, but no longer are. Include links, or even better, spoilered-but-embedded images/videos. This thread can count, but I’m counting on you. (view post) |
