GTA is about the sandbox not the quests. It is so bad even that they only unlock parts of the game AFTER you complete the quests. I couldn’t play San Andreas based on this fact alone.

and GTA 4’s story, which started halfway decent, died halfway through the game (around when you unlock Alderny.) If you are arsed enough to go through the main plot through the end, one of the endings requires you to fly the helicopter (with no autosave feature) which in the famous words of Yatzee: “Handles like a drunk fat man on a unicycle.”

And there are better sandboxes out there than GTA like Fallout 3 or the Elder Scrolls games, so if GTA doesn’t fix their writing their franchise will die.
