When you’re an admin on Forumwarz, you sometimes see extra tools available to you on various pages of the site. These are mostly used for debugging and developing, but they can also be used when the **** hits the fan to fix the site when it breaks under weird conditions.

Anyway, here’s an example of one of the admin links at the top of itembuildr:

See how it’s clearly labelled as ADMIN, and the link says “Change to Voting”?

What do you think would happen if you clicked that link? If you guessed that it would switch itembuildr into the voting mode, you guessed right!

Now, I’m not going to name names here, but another admin saw this link last night, and decided to click it just to see what it would do. Apparently the link was “enticing.”

When he did, it changed itembuildr into voting mode. Which is actually recoverable, because I could just switch back a few flags in the database manually. Except he didn’t stop there, instead of calling me to help fix it, he clicked the link AGAIN. Which then published the voted build and created a new one.

When I saw this last night I was on my way to bed, but I thought I could recover in the morning. As it turns out, I can’t. The new item is completely different and people have already made submissions. At this point I think the only thing we can do is move on. I’m sorry if you lost some awesome submissions.
