I would have something submitted by now, but it seems my headset mic is busted (As in, I have to scream into it for it to register in audacity) and my desktop mic keeps cutting out.

You’re likely plugged into your Aux jack with your mic. The mic jack has automatic gain, which most mics require, but the aux jack does not. Without gain almost no mics send a loud enough signal to be heard easily.
