At about the turn of the century, When mankind did surely jest, “The end of the world is near, my friend! I wish you all the best!” Yet sure enough, the world kept spinning, To a riot of sighs of relief, It seemed we’d spin happily onward, And that our world was the “best of the beef” —————- But the populous would panic yet again, From a prediction of years pbumed by, Aztecs thought that 2012 Would secure everyones demise. Yet December 21st came and went, And humanity continued to fight, Unaware that their future was prolonged By no more than a meteorite. ————————— Eventually, world powers were alerted An asteroid approached while our attention averted, Although we’d survived countless theories and wars, That surely this behemoth would demolish our shores. So astronomers planned; they gave timeframe, Celebrities would get few more months of fame, Before the comet ground us all to dust In a prehistoric manner of celestial lust. —————— Finally, after all those years of fretting, Humanity looked to the sky, unforgetting As the asteroid neared end of its deadly course, It showed no mercy, pbumion, or remorse. But an unlikely savior made an orbit around, In a final attempt to protect its homeground, The Moon, of all things, came into view, As pieces it crushed the asteroid into. People rejoiced, and danced all around, Unaware of the fire that seemed to rain down, Though most burned up before hitting surface, A few would go home with a trophy to furnish, An inconspicuous rock it seemed at first, Yet few could hold pieces of what almost killed Earth. |
