There are indeed rules on this site. Sometimes they could use further definition, but we’re willing to clarify things that seem ambiguous. Other times they’re open to interpretation and subjective adjudication — just like in any common legal system.

I can tell you that the system of communication between moderators has been getting much better lately. And with the forthcoming addition of more highly qualified mods, it should provide an improved system of checks and balances for future judgment calls.
