The canvas prevails

Though the brushstrokes have weathered

Is the message lost?

Fleeting ownership

Of a wall nobody wants

And a sense of place

All the old masters

Were once considered vandals.

I await my time

It doesn’t matter

If the words are legible;

Just that they are there

The urban jungle

Sometimes needs its own roadmap

Writing points the way

We enter battle

With our swords and spears held high;

See our war of words

On a cold evening

An artist is walking away

From a masterpiece

—

Message for no-one

Laid out for the world to see

No return address

—

We watch but don’t see

They come and go in the night

City ghost writers

—

Rooftop acrobat

With a spray can in his hand

Takes over the town

—

Art must be lawless

But when it creeps across walls

Should the rules apply?

Bricks soak up anger

And the senselessness of life

In the big city

—

His heart on the wall

His spray can in his pocket

And he vanishes

—

An open letter

To the lonely citizens

says “I was here too”
