Make it available to mods so action can be taken against CP posters and the likes. If anything interesting happens people in chat can always preserve it for themselves or even for the community on the wiki.

Logs would need moderation to flush out such crap (probably also personal info) if made public, which is really too much of a waste of time.

This is on top of the other arguments already raised against it.
