Well, the facts you need to know are:

[*] Dacia was and still is a crappy Romanian car (they make fun of it all the time on Top Gear). They used to make Renault clones, and now are owned by Renault.

[*] The wages in Romania are quite low compared to the EU average

[*] Because of the wages, buying a car needs superhuman efforts (you need to save up your entire life).

[*] Americans, Germans, and other westerners, may consider that if you spent your life’s savings on the car, it has to have been expensive, right?

You could replace the Romanians with Russians for example, and something of their own brewing. I think you get the idea.
