Update: The contest has finished, so I’m posting the puzzles and solutions in spoiler tags.
Prepuzzle part 1: Find the contest! Unfortunately, you won’t be able to do this the intended way once the thread is closed. Prepuzzle part 1 solution: Quote the OP. The rules and the first puzzle are hidden in image tags directly below “Find the contest”, but they’re in code. This is the hidden text: [img]Congrats, you found the contest. Now decode it.[/img] [img]Gtwf dbjf, K oqbn. Bqf bx iyf aseegfv kqmbgmfv t wblf kqiflfvikqc dbjf. Prepuzzle part 2: Decode it. Prepuzzle part 2 solution: It’s a monoalphabetic cypher. You can just run it through a simple online decoder. Puzzle 1: 3 Little Pigs Taxi Service Puzzle 1 solution: straw cab -> sdrawkcab -> backwards I gave so many hints for this, you don’t even need to know the puzzle to solve it. Puzzle 2: What’s deeper than an iPod Femto? Puzzle 2 solution: Brian Greene knitting furiously. It’s a reference to the xkcd strip “Depth”. Puzzle 3: (000)370-0177 Puzzle 3 solution: Turned upside down, it becomes WDDLEDOO, or Waddle Doo. I expected the main difficulty in this to be the D/O ambiguity. Puzzle 4: jlnx iun ndjz Puzzle 4 solution: Convert to numbers 1-26, add primes, convert back. Answer: lose the game Puzzle 5: It’s not important, and yes, I am aware of the forbidden fruit effect. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Find the contest! People who have finished Puzzle 1: People who have finished Puzzle 2: People who have finished Puzzle 3: People who have finished Puzzle 4: People who have finished Puzzle 5: First place: Miss Prince Second place: Psy-4 Pre-Puzzle Hint 1: You don’t have to leave this thread. Puzzle 1 Hint 1: Homophone Puzzle 1 Hint 1 Addendum: The answer isn’t a homophone, but homophonicity is involved. Puzzle 1 Hint 1 Addendum 2: Tools and lists probably won’t help, as the homophones are a phrase and something that isn’t even a word (although it does show up on Urban Dictionary). Puzzle 1 Hint 2: The answer is a real word. Type: adjective/adverb Puzzle 1 Hint 3: First letter: b Puzzle 1 Hint 4: The solution doesn’t involve noises (such as oink) or types of pigs. Puzzle 1 Hint 5: Out of what would you expect them to make their stuff? Puzzle 1 Hint 6: The first pig drives a _____ ___. Puzzle 2 Hint 1: xkcd Puzzle 3 Hint 1: MS Paint Adventures Problem Sleuth Chapter 2 (although the answer and solution have nothing to do with MSPA) Puzzle 3 Hint 2: Kirby Puzzle 4 Hint 1: The encryption is a cipher with a simple, weak, endless key. Letters are represented as integers 1-26. Puzzle 4 Hint 2: The key is a well-known set of numbers. zagerblag edited this message on 03/28/2009 1:43PM |
