How much more full context do you need from definition 1? Pry yourself away from your PC for 2 minutes and grab a dictionary. A Collegiate Dictionary should do the trick, then look up the word. I am sure you will be marveled.

Or you could actually read some scholarly peer reviewed articles on the topic written by people who actually know wtf they are talking about and try that on for size.
