Douglas Adams is dead. Mostly Harmless is a perfectly good way to end the series. Why would they beat a dead horse, especially one that had preformed so admirably when it was alive?

Because Adams himself said that he was not happy with the ending.

He isn’t here to fix it, but someone else is. Hopefully they’ll do a good job.
