I just got confirmation that our order for new hardware went through.
Right now Forumwarz runs off a single Dual Xeon E5535 server. As you can see from the following CPU column, we’re quite maxed out.

(In case you’re wondering you can go higher than 100% CPU on tasks on a multi-core machine. Ours has 8.)
Our new order is 3 new servers. Two will be Ruby on Rails exclusively and one will be our MySQL database. It should help a lot with the CPU load on the server.
All three are Dual Xeon E5405 servers, which are each about 20% faster than our current Dual Xeon E5335 server. The database has a 15k RPM SAS drive, too.
I’m hoping they will make a big difference on the load! Although if past experience has taught me anything, there is always some tuning after I launch new hardware to figure out how to best make use of it.
I don’t have an ETA for when they will be ready to go, but our hosting company has been really fast in the past. Evil Trout edited this message on 03/17/2009 4:25PM |
