The Forumwarz Book Club: An Idea Doomed To FailI’m going to try and get in on the club, but my reading pace has really fallen off lately (doing more side work). I already have Lot 49 so that’s a good enough reason for me to join in.
Fair warning: For those of you who enjoy Lot 49 and are interested in more Pynchon, I’d recommend staying away from Gravity’s Rainbow. It’s one of those novels you kind of have to work towards…very difficult to read at first. My creative writing teacher in high school offered an “A” grade in the clbum to any student who could read it and give a 1 minute summary to her. (view post) |

You’re kidding, right? By HST’s own admission, that movie took severe liberties on his work. He even wrote an alternate intro and ending for it specifically, but Art Linson decided to use his screenwriter’s version instead.
I’m looking forward to The Rum Diary in film next year.

Weirdest band name ever...Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is an incredible musical experience. See them live if you can. Others…

I can recommend each of those bands except the last two, they’re hit & miss. Also, for strange song titles, anything by either The Mars Volta or Of Montreal should suffice. Type O Negative has some too; “The Glorious Liberation Of The People’s Technocratic Republic Of Vinnland By The Combined Forces Of The United Territories Of Europa” and “Gravitational Constant: G = 6.67 x 10-8 cm-3 gm-1 sec-2” come to mind.
